Anthony and I have known each other since 2006. We met when I was a freshman and he was a senior in college, and started dating that year. He's from Connecticut, and I'm from Long Island. We've had a relationship ruled by traffic, ferries, and hefty phone bills. On 07/29/11, a Friday, Anthony came to spend the weekend with my family. That Saturday, we were having my family over for a barbecue to celebrate my birthday. Anthony had planned to take me out to a romantic dinner, but the weather was awful, so we cancelled our plans. I thought the engagement might have happened at dinner, so was extra dismayed when thunder ruined our reservations. Anthony picked me up at my home and brought me to his hotel, so I could help him carry in his luggage and entertain him while he changed out of his suit (he'd come straight from work) and in to his jeans. He got changed, and we chatted for a while. I reminded him that we had to leave to get back to my house, as our dinner of burritos was waiting. He had slipped my Claddagh ring, which he gave me as a gift for our first anniversary, off my right hand. I didn't think much of it, as he'd being removing it for whatever reason quite frequently over the past month. He asked me if I wanted my ring back before leaving, and I said that of course I did. I grabbed his hand and two rings slid off of his pinky; I put my Claddagh ring back on my hand right away. The other ring was an engagement ring; simple and elegant. He asked if I'd marry him, and, through my tears, I said nothing would make me happier. It was the perfect proposal, the perfect ring, and I am ecstatic to plan our wonderful wedding together.
