2nd Copy of Marriage Certificate/License

2nd Copy of Marriage Certificate/License

Ok..did anyone do this? I have questions. I have mailed my request and check twice and had problems.

The first one got sent back to me and I have no clue why. I sent it in again and they sent back a letter saying I have to fill out this form and on the form it says for those that have been married less than 50 days. I have been married more than 50 days. So I am afraid they will send it back again. They also say payment must be money order or certified check (pain in the butt).

Anyone did this and if so what is the procedure? I want to do it via mail or phone. I got my license in Queens - so I know city rules may be different (or at least more $$$) than LI.

I just sent in a check for 2 more copies, and got them back so quick! I went to the Town of Oyster Bay though.

When we first received our certificate, it came in the mail with a request form that they typed up, for if/when we needed more copies. So that's what we used for this request.

I'd call the office you went to and ask them if they had a specific form you were supposed to be using....

See..exactly your experience Teri is how the website reads.

I guess I will call. I just figured you guys are more reliable...than calling the Queens County!!! sad but true.

I could totally believe that! First off, how are you supposed to know to ask for a form? If the TOB didn't send us their form, I wouldn't have know either!

Re: 2nd Copy of Marriage Certificate/License

Coincidentally, I received a duplicate copy of my marriage license yesterday that I requested in OCTOBER!!!! (Efficient, huh!!!) I couldn't wait, so I went in person in January and they issued a duplicate license to me on the spot. So, if possible, I suggest going in person. My license was issued from Brooklyn.

I wanted to send my mom to town hall to pick them up for me, but they would only release them to the couple - not helpful when I'm in CA!

I ended up sending them a letter requesting a copy (I didn't hear about any 'form') with payment. I got my duplicate copys a few weeks later. They don't look like the original at all - its the form they filled out with all your info when you were there, with a seal.

Re: 2nd Copy of Marriage Certificate/License

It takes 4 weeks from the time you submit your application for additional copies of marriage license. I did this as I wanted to change my name on my passport and have to give in my only copy of our license. I'd called the Manhattan City Clerk to check the status which fortunately they do have my application and money order on file. They will give you a case number. Rather than waiting for it in the mail, I took the time to pick it up by hand myself one early morning. They open at 8:30 am. I'd sent my application for a second certified copy back in November 2002 and picked it up by hand in early January 2003--our wedding was in August 24, 2002. I say if you requested months ago, you should go there in person to pick it up because that's ridiculously too long. Call ahead for a case number and if they have the paperwork first. Our first copy did not have a raised seal, but our second one does because I'd specifically requested it.

Do you know if you can pick it up in NYC in person if you originally got it in Queens? I just called Queens and they told me only NYC mails them out not Queens but if you come in person to Queens then you can get it in 15 minutes. If I can do it in the city, I would go in person. I tried called NYC and was stuck in voicemail hell!!

Re: 2nd Copy of Marriage Certificate/License

We originally got our license in the Manhattan office on Centre Street before our wedding day. I'd requested for a second copy of our license and waited about 2 months and got nothing. So, I'd was stuck on the phone to check the status of our application for about 15 minutes. I got a case number from that phone ordeal which I went to the Centre Street County clerk office in Manhattan and waited 15 minutes to get it without any problems. Both copies were from the same county clerk office in Manhattan so we didn't have any problems. It was just a matter of waiting so long since they claim to be so 'backed up' for being so slow.

I don't know how it is about filing it in one office and picking it up in another county clerk office.

I believe that they will only issue it in person at the office that originally issued the license. So, if it was issued in Queens, you'd have to go to Queens to get it in person.
