5 years ago today....

...was the blackout of 2003!

I always remember this because it was the first time DH and I really started talking - since we all went out to a bar that night (I had just started working at the same office as him a couple weeks prior to this). Ah, good times.

Now, 5 years later here we are: Married 1 year and 1 month exactly today.

Wow thats amazing you remembered! I remember that day now like it was yesterday too...everyone was out all night...and even though it was so hott and miserable everyone made the best of it and I actually had fun.

My DH was supposed to fly in to NY to see me that day too but they cancelled all flights out and into JFK b/c of the blackout..he was so upset i remember lol.

DH just reminded me. I had to walk down 40 flights of stairs in my office building, then walk from midtown over the 59th St bridge all the way to Astoria. It took all afternoon and I was wearing flip-flops (that I wore on the train) and by the time I got home my feet were black from the dirt and bleeding from blisters. It was awful. Good news was, the pizza place on my block was giving away all their pizza for free since they didn't want the cheese to go bad, which was good because DH and I had no cash on us at all (we had about 75 cents) and basically no food in our pantry, and the ATMs weren't working so we would have starved without the pizza.

Good times.

aww, that's a great story.

DH was stranded at the airport...and i was stuck out here in the dark all alone...with our one dog.. I remember being so bored!

Wow, was that today?

I was still living in the city then, and spent the night on my stoop with 5 complete strangers. I will never forget this...we're sitting there and all of a sudden, this couple walks by holding hands, and they were both COMPLETELY NAKED! It was the greatest...it was dark by that point and I guess they figured they'd never get the chance again, so they went for it.

My entire family was in Seattle for a reunion and were all atop the Space Needle when we heard. Our dogs were in a pet motel in Freeport, luckily they still had power.

yup... worked downtown at the WFC... walked down 31 flights of stairs and up to my apartment on the UES... with a stop at my old job on 57th, where of COURSE all my friends were outside with a 12 pack and a bag of ice to keep it cold the bar we always went to was giving away all there beer so we had a few.... then I got to my apt with 2 of my guy friends, waiting for my dad who also walked up to my place from battery park... he didn't get their until 10pm and i was SO worried (he's no spring chicken to walk from Battery Park to 81st and Lex) but he finally got there and I made pasta with garlic and oil and tomato sauce for the 4 of us. thank goodness for a gas stove

the next morning I walked over the 59th street bridge with my dad so we could get him back to LI. Good times, good times. I actually really enjoyed the day because 1. it was BEAUTIFUL out and 2. it wasn't a terrorist attack which is what everyone thought at first

I remember everyone thinking it was a terrorist attack at first too, especially since we work 2 blocks away from the WTC. But once everyone realized it wasn't, we hit up all the local bars since they started giving some drinks away!

DH came to my parent's house during the black out and we bbq'd

then i realized all the streets were pitch black and no lights were on. so like the dirty birds we are---we sat in his car in front of my parent's house and did the deed cause no one was driving around and the street lights and stufr were off. haha.

i still have a scar on my knee from our hijinks.

I lived in Williamsburg at the time and I remember hanging out at my apartment on Bedford Avenue with my brother and a friend from work who could not get back to Long Island.

The ice cream store on the corner was giving out free ice cream and the bar across the street was selling beer at half price!

The best part was that a random brass band started a parade down Grand Street for no reason other than that they could! People joined in with all kinds of instruments and buckets and pots and pans!! It was a mob scene but so much fun!!

I remember that too!

DH was stuck at work until pretty late, he works at a hospital and even though he's not in the medical field at all they made everyone stay!

It was so effin hot in our apartment, especially when it got dark, I ended up taking a looooong walk outside

Oh I remember those days. We didn't have power for 2 whole days and all DH and I did was sit in the pool all day and night and BBQ because 1) no one could work and 2) we couldn't cook inside plus be in there.

I had also had to dodge cars in my own to pick up my lil sis from work. Boy was that an adventure for DH and I. No one knows how to drive at all

i was on a cruise 5 years ago today, so i missed it.. but my dh was here, lonely, without me
