Hey girls! I was just wondering what a typical weekday was like for you and your hubby. (afterwork) I am worried because I feel like we have gotten into such a routine!
Here is ours: We both get home around 5:30, we make dinner together, then clean a bit. Then he either puts on a movie or plays a playstation game. I spend a great amount of time playing with our cat, then get into my PJs and either watch tv or do something crafty like make candles. Then we go to bed.
We were talking about this the other night, that our lives have become so routine and we have only married for amost 3 months. Its getting boring and I dont want to loose that fun young feeling that we have always had. We are trying to save $ (for a house) so we are limited on entertainment $, which also puts a lot of stress on both of us. I think that its ok not to really do anything during the week because we both have to work the next morning... We should really be saving our $ if we want to go out for the weekends. Anyway I am just looking for some ideas and wondering what all of you other newly weds do typically on a weekday night? Thanks

My DH gets up around 6:15 and is out of the house by 6:45 or so. I get up around 7:30 and am out of the house by 8am (I get ready fast). We both get home around 6:30 or so and rarely cook. I HATE to cook. We either go out, bring food in, or eat cereal, bagels, pasta.. lol. Or we run errands or go to the mall or go see his neice. I cannot sit home- I always have to be active! Two nights a week DH has school so I either run errands or come home and play on the computer. Nothing too exciting! We usually watch the news at 11pm and if we can stay up, watch Raymond at 11:30 pm and then go to sleep and start all over again!

DH and I get up around 6, he leaves for work at 645. I leave around 8. (Yes I take forever to get ready and I am a slowpoke!) We have coffee together and watch the morning weather.
He gets home at 430 and I am home around 6, 615. He watches TV and I make dinner monday thru friday. We eat dinner and he goes back to the TV. Then I clean up, wash the dishes, clean the counters etc. See a pattern here? Trying to break it! Then I usually go online for a little while and then we watch TV together.
Weekends we usually go to the movies every Friday nite. Saturdays and Sundays we shop and do errands, the usual. And he usually cooks So thats a plus.
Yes and I forgot to add when we say good bye in the AM and when we go to bed at night, we say I love you and kiss good night. And never say good bye - always see you later !

I am sort of in a limbo right now with no real schedule for myself- not in school, just waiting for the little guy to come. Strange not to be busy and I am finding it hard to just relax. Anyway, my DH works nights so his life is upside down but we like the midnight schedule and have had the same routine for about 5 years now. I typically start dinner around 7 or 7:30, wake DH up at 8. We have dinner together (NO TV!) clean up, then he showers. We relax together until 10 when he leaves for work. I always walk him to the door and tell him to be careful, then I either go to bed or watch a 10pm show (I love Without a Trace now). On DH's days off (Sunday and Monday) I always get up first, make coffee, then he gets up. We have breakfast, go to the gym (separately) then meet home for lunch and whatever we are going to do that day. Can't wait to look back at this in a month or so after the little guy comes and see how this routine has changed!

Re: A day in the life of you and your hubby..
Well, I get up for work around 5:30am and leave at 6:30am. DH is in bed sleeping, and he can sleep until whenever he wants to since he works from home.
I normally get home around 6:30pm, and then we'll have dinner, and clean up together, we'll watch some TV while doing bills, going through mail, playing a computer game. . . .then it's off to bed at 11pm.
Some weeks are different than others though. There are weeks where he's busy with the band at night, or has mid-week gigs so he's not home until 2-3am.
Weekends we try and do fun things, but there are also household chores that need to be done too (the bathroom doesn't clean itself!), and since he is home during the week, he'll ususally set aside one day and do a whole slew of errands for us.
We'll see how everything changes though since he is going back to school this semester.

During the week we rarely see each other, hubby gets home around 7pm then goes to the gym. I get home at around 9pm 2 nights a week.
So techinically we both get into bed at 10 pm talk and cuddle, then its lights out.
Sat and Sun are our big catch nights.

It's so good to see we're just normal! I was so jealous thinking everyone else was doing so much more together.
We've talked about this and have decided that we have a date night! Date night is either once a week, or once every other week. We're saving for a house too, so funds are limited. Date night does not need to be expensive, just together. Sometimes, we'll get a bottle of wine, or make drinks and talk w/out the TV being on.
Other than date nights, when DH gets home, which varies every night... he goes straight to the computer. If he's not still working from home, he'll work on his hobby. He races RC cars. If it's not the cars, he'll play guitar. Although, I'll sit w/ him when he plays and I'll sing or whatever. So, most nights, I'm doing my own thing in the house, and he's doing his. Date night is so necessary! He can go to bed late, and I need all the sleep I can get.

Michelle, you two are perfectly normal.
When we get home from work we are always exhausted that all we want to do is relax.
The date night is an excellent idea!

Re: A day in the life of you and your hubby..
We are kinda of boring. I live with my In-laws which makes it sorta of restricted for me.
Our routine: 6am – Jim wakes up and goes for his shower about 6:20am he comes back and cuddles with me (still asleep) until 6:45am then he wakes me up. I get up and get into the bathroom, while I’m there he pulls out my clothes and stuff and irons if it needs it. I come back brush my hair and get dressed. He makes sure to put all my gadgets back in my bag (Ipod and phone) We are out the door by 7:15 latest. Jim goes back home and hangs out until 8am and then dresses for work and leaves.
I don’t leave my office until I know he’s ready to be able to pick me up at the train station. So normally it’s past 7pm. We get home around 8pm. If I need to work late or have some sort of function/event, he goes home first and hangs out until he needs to pick me up. If he needs to work late (like the 3rd Friday of ever month) then I go off to Barnes and Nobles to read. He meets me there and we go home.
We get home, I undress into my Jammies. Jim puts up my clothes and I head for a shower while he makes dinner. I come back down, dinner is served. We catch up and talk about all sorts of things. His office, my office, who we heard from lately, what we heard about what, current events and such. Other than my shower and bathroom visits, I NEVER leave the room. TV, computer, radio, PS2 are all there, no need to leave. We also eat there too.
We watch our routine of TV (on certain days). If no TV then either he or I am on the computer. If I’m on, he’s playing with his Clie or watching TV. If he’s on then I’m reading a book or watching TV.
When at home, the cat comes into to entertain from time to time.
Oddly enough we are still ok with this. We are on an extra tight budget so we understand this is what it needs to be. On the weekend we will go out for mussels or sushi. Otherwise, we keep things pretty routine. We just keep telling ourselves we are so lucky not to be at each other’s throats with all the time we spend together.

Re: A day in the life of you and your hubby..
Yes, we have a unexciting routine as well.
5:45 - my alarm goes off, get ready to go to work, kiss sleeping hubby goodbye and out the door by 6:45
I get home between 3:45 and 6:00, after running errands or going to the gym, relax, do some work, then cook dinner.
DH is home between 7:15 and 8:00 and we eat dinner soon after. He usually gets on the computer and I get ready for the next day (make my lunch, pack my bag, put clothes out for next day).
I'm usually in bed by 9:30 and he joins me a couple of hours later. We don't spend a lot of quality time together because I need to go to bed early and he gets home late in the evening. We used to have 'date night' once a week, and we should resume it very soon, maybe when the weather gets warmer. I have this need to be in my comfy home when it's dark out.

Yes - I forgot to say - our date night is on Friday nights! A tradition since our 1st date.

Wow...I am actually jealous of those that have a so-called 'routine.' We have been married for just about three months and our lives are SO HECTIC
If we are both home at 9PM, that is an early night! Usually we only get to spend about 2hrs together at night, if that. Both of our jobs are pretty crazy and unpredictable (i'm an attorney at a big firm in manhattan and he is a financial analyst at a major telecom co.). Anyway, I guess I just figure will do this until we can save enough to buy my dream house
Anyway, I guess the only 'routine' we have is take-out - and eating dinner very late! I hate it! But, it is the only time we really get to spend together during the week

Re: A day in the life of you and your hubby..
Very unevenful as well but hectic! LOL
At 5 45 dh gets up and gets dressed, walks the dogs and moves the cars around. Lately he has been heating up my car for me which is soo sweet and appreciated! At 6 30 I get up, say goodbye to him and start to get ready for work, out of the house by 7 20 usually.
I get home at about 4 15 every day and he walks in usually right behind me. He walks the dogs again, I usually come on the comp and check mail and of course liweddings and he goes on the phone or plops down on the couch and watches some tv. Most of the time i nap for an hour while he puddies around the house.
When I wake up I cook dinner, and he cleans up after it.
Then we take turns taking our showers, I come back on here for a while, he does some work for the next day, we walk the dogs again, maybe watch some tv together and go to bed at around midnight.
Usually we watch Will and Grace together in bed and we both go to sleep right after..then it begins all over again!
