A little annoyed!

A little annoyed!

First I need to apologize to everyone. Its friday and I have NOTHING to do at work, my boss is not here and I am on pain meds that apparently make me hyper. So i will probably be a compulsive LIW poster today.

Anyhow, as you know DH and I booked a trip to Italy through a travel agent. She booked all the hotels I wanted and really did a great job. She never mentioned anything about a fee to use her and now all of a sudden I get an email from her saying she is sending me an invoice for her services. I didnt think to ask if there was a fee because I never once paid of travel agent services before. I thought they made their money through a portion of what they book etc. I don't mind paying her (well depending on how much the invoice is for)... but is this normal? Has anyone ever paid a travel agent like this before?

I wish she would have mentioned this to me before booking my trip, i honestly would have done it myself.

I wouldn't have expected a bill either....especially because travel agents are a dime a dozen and you could easily just go to someone with no fee. I think its unprofessional for her not to mention she charges!

I don't know if it's normal but I thought that they did it more on commission. . either way I think it's weird that she didn't mention it up front. .hope the bill is very small!

I have never paid a travel agent. She should have let you know that there was a fee up front. I'd be angry too.

WOW! She should of told you up front, not just send an e-mail like that.

What was her fee? When's the trip maybe you can cancel and it book it yourself through the sites.

I would be very annoyed too and fight that and ask to speak to a supervisor!!!

I haven't recieved the invoice yet. She just emailed me to tell me she mailed it. I am waiting until i see how much she charged me before replying to her. I just double checked her website and nowhere on there does it mention any kind of fee for services.

She owns this business so she is the one in charge.. but still I have booked through independent travel agents before and they never charged me any type of fee.

IVE NEVER EVER paid a travel agent fee. Prices quoted were always inclusive of the agent's commission.

Did you sign any type of contract/paperwork? Do you have anything that you've received from her so far? If so, check to see if there's anything in 'fine print' anywhere...

That being said. If it's not even mentioned on her website & it's not in print anywhere - I dont care if she's charging .50 for a fee - I STILL WOULDNT PAY IT! That's extortion & I would tell her as soon as you get the bill that you're not paying for it. If she tries to argue, you tell her you will take her to small claims court for extortion & fraud - since she obviousvly deceived you of these supposed 'charges'.

However large or small the amt is - DONT PAY IT!

Nothing.. not a thing mentioned on any email (i checked every single one) and nothing on paperwork I signed, nothing on her website, nothing on her FB page, nothing on Tripatlas.com, etc.

When bookin the trip i told her what hotels I wanted and what flights I wanted so maybe she wasn't able to make a commission off of the stuff i picked? Regardless if that was the case I should have been informed of such and told that I would be invoiced for her services.

I am really interested to see how much she charges me, bc honestly I did ALL the work. I told her exactly what I wanted, all she had to do was book it and get me trip insurance. Even though I could have booked it all myself I did it through her for the insuranc and the peace of mind that if god forbid something happened she can take care of it for me.

I worked with her strictly online and she seriously have been beyond wonderful... so I am torn between fighting it.. or just sucking it up and paying. Either way I am going to ask her to break down the fee and provide an explination to each item.. go figure.. nothing seems to go smoothly with me these days.

Sounds like she is a SCAMMER!!!!! Once you get the bill I would ask her why there is a Fee..and why she didn't tell you about it upfront.

If she gives you a hard time..can you contacy the better business bureau?? I WOULD!!! Things like this the ***** comes out in me!!! lol

Re: A little annoyed!

I got a travel agent recommendation through a coworker for our HM trip and she did everything for us. I saw $25 fees pop up on my CC bill every time she booked something -- but the deals she got us were so above and beyond a savings of $25 that I didn't care at all. She didn't tell us beforehand either -- maybe she thought the mutual friend would.

I dont think its a scam honestly, i think she is just a little clueless maybe.....its a new company (sort of) but probably the best travel agent service I have ever had!.. thats why I dont mind paying the fee (if its small), but still don't think its right i was never informed of it. She knew we were on a tight budget. I told her that, so she could have mentioned it up front. I will def. say something to her about this.

Best way to straighten this mess out is to ask her why she didn't mention it up front. I hope the fee is small!!

I never paid for one before, and neither have my parents. That's weird, maybe it's a new thing because of the economy?
