A reason why I'm glad we had a second reception that the ILs paid for.

So on Sunday, DH and I were heading to Guitar Center and got sidelined by PC Richards in Woodside. We go in, look around, and walk out. As we're leaving, some guy on Queens Boulevard starts yelling to us in Bengali and I'm just like 'whatever, learn English' under my breath and DH is like 'what the frig?' and turns around.

This guy comes up to us and is like 'I'm your uncle and I was at your wedding!' (In South Asian culture, it's really common for a person to be referred to as an uncle or auntie simply because they are older than you...as well as grandma or grandpa for the same reason, if they're a lot older than you...I will take on certain customs but NOT this one at all!) Anyway, Neel and I are standing there all like 'what?' but we were cordial about it and made a quick exit.

Now, when we were planning our wedding, my parents had NO PROBLEM paying for DH's family at the venue - so long as it was people we knew. None of this 'uncle, auntie' beezwax. The IL's wanted a total separate reception that was more Bengali anyway, so we told them that the only people to be invited to the REAL wedding were people that DH and I KNEW.

I'm so glad we stuck to our guns.

Who the frig was that guy, though? We're still clueless. Even his parents don't know who this dude was.
