A work in progress (house related)

A work in progress (house related)

So, you guys might remember that we bought a foreclosure about 2 months ago. Would you believe we have still not moved in???? The house wasn't trashed or anything, but it needed 'a little TLC.'

Um, a little TLC has turned out to be a FORTUNE and we're not even close to being done. . This is all work, labor and materials to make the house look nice. Not furniture or decorating. So far we have:

replaced the kitchen countertops ($5000)
new kitchen sink ($1000)
painted entire interior ($2000 for paint, $4000 for labor)
power wash the exterior ($1000)
refinished hardwoods on 1st floor & stairs ($1700)
replaced the front door ($2000)
replaced all closet & bedroom doors (there were none- ($1000)
replaced all lighting fixtures (there were none - ($2500 and not done yet)
replaced all towel bars, TP holders, etc (there were none ($500)
replaced all light switches (again, none ($250)
replaced carpeting in bedrooms ($8000)
buy every home appliance (there were none $7000)

we still need a cleaning crew, landscaping, driveway paving, gutters, furniture, and possibly some roof repairs.

KILL ME PLEASE!!!

I am NOT SAYING to NOT buy a foreclosure. BUT I am saying, be prepared to spend a lot or make sure you can get a home equity loan.

Yikes that is a lot of money.
Not to sound dumb but I really dont know, did you guys had the extra money saved or is that included in the mortgage. I would be crying right now.
BUTTTTTTTT it will look fantabulous once you're done.

I'm sure that all your hard work (and $) will be well worth it, especially when you create a princess room for darling Ella.

Yes, but ultimately in the end you will or should make back more than what you paid.
It's an investment, and if you play your cards right it can be a huge profit in the end.

it always adds up but look at it this way, you get this totally awesome house the way YOU want it. I think it's great and will be worth it in the end!

it will be worth it in the end - you should def post before and after pics!

i cant wait to get started on a house - ugh, i really hope we get this house we've been after

we are hoping to DIY as much as possible to save $$ (like all the flooring, paint) but its going to be rough! i think we'll be furniture-less for awhile!

good luck on finishing up and getting in there!!

we had SOME money put away but not enough to cover all this. Everything is turning out to cost a lot more than the estimates

I will def post before & afters when its all done. We have done SO MUCH. And yes, it's totally an investment.

Awhh that stinks
Your house will be great once it is finished. I think that goes with saying any home is like a sponge regardless of the money you 'think' your saving. Something always comes up
