Hubby and I are thinking of buying an Ab machine for the house....Does anyone own one? If so which one?

Re: Ab Machine
My SIL has the ab circle. She said it felt like it worked because she was in pain, but I think thats because the machine makes you twist your body in a weird way....it probably wasn't a good 'its working' pain she was feeling!

Re: Ab Machine
I'm kinda skeptical about those 'as seen on TV' ab machines but DH & I get a great workout doing abs on the round ball.
You could also try a smaller one like this Ab Ball

I think I registered for one on my BBB registry. That one you have to kneel on just scares me.

Re: Ab Machine
My trainer used to always tell me that there is no reason to ever buy a machine to work your abs. She said she didn't believe in them at all, and they do more harm than good.
My only suggestion is to read reviews of them and pick one that won't accidentally mess up your back. I do crunches with a medicine ball at the gym and it really works.

Re: Ab Machine
IMO any of those machines are a waste of money. Good ole crunches and you can always add weight as you go.

Re: Ab Machine
I agree that the best thing you can get is one of those balls - you can do soooo much on them for abs . crunches, holding a push up and pulling your knees in, legs raises. . AND
- they are cheap - they deflate when you don't want it -make good seats :)
and you can just sit on one too and they help your abs. . a lot of the other ab machines target only 1 specific muscle and can end up doing more harm than good as sandra said. .

Re: Ab Machine
absolutely. An excercise ball a stability ball and resistance bands are all good for core workouts.

Re: Ab Machine
Also, if you can get a pull up bar, they are great for things like hanging leg raises which are INCREDIBLE!

Re: Ab Machine
i bought the bender ball.. its the same idea as one of those big workout balls. there was a medical survey on how well it worked and it said it is effective but DO NOT buy it from their website. you get roped into spending more money than you think.
