Re: Marriage Certificate from NEW YORK CITY?

I got my marriage certificate from NYC and we don't have a raised seal either. I already went to the SS office and DMV (both in Nassau) to change my name and neither of them had a problem with it.

No problem! I read about the raised seal and was concerned too...but it wasn't a problem.

Re: Marriage Certificate from NEW YORK CITY?

I just got mine. It has no raised seal.

If you look on the lower left corner it says something like 'facsimile seal and signature provided under provision 34e32763285 of code 3857348563' or something,

The guy who 'signs' the NYC marriage licenses is one of my BILs best friends, so I think that's kind of cool that his sig is on my marriage lic

Atleast the jersey one is thicker! I didn't know you moved to Jersey...I used to live there for almost 2 years. Only annoying part was the monthly ez-pass fees. Ugh.

my excuse before was that I'll have to change it anyway when we got married

Re: Additional question regarding name change

I went to the SS office. According to their website, you HAVE to go in person. Now, I don't know how accurate that is since I know a couple 2010 brides mailed everything in and it worked out just fine, but I went down to the office to be sure. I haven't changed my name on my license or my passport yet though.
