After your wedding,

when you go to other's weddings, do you gift what you would have prior to your own, or do you give a similar gift to what they gave you?

I'm asking b/c we are flying to a wedding this weekend ($400 RT for us both) and staying with friends. The couple drove to our wedding (we were living closer then) and didn't stay in a hotel. They sent us a gift off our registry two months after our wedding worth approx $75. I think we should just give them a check for $200 (less than we would normally give, but a very nice gift) but my husband thinks that since we already spending a lot to go to their wedding, we should gift similar to them...what do you think?? TIA!

Re: After your wedding,

We usually give what they gave us but our weddings are all local. People usually take into consideration that you came from out of town and spent money on the airfare / hotel.. I say gift similar to them, maybe a fraction more...
I'm sure whatever it is, they will be most gracious and happy that you made the trip.

Good Luck.
Deb

Re: After your wedding,

let me tell you, our list has come in handy for my MIL , she has been going to a lot of weddings lately. We have been using this list as a guide line..... We usually give back exactly what we received, unless we deciede if we want to give a little more, etc. A lot of our friends are married already. Our guests were very generous with us, but we were also very generous to them when they were getting married.

Re: After your wedding,

My MIL kept asking for our list and I would never give it to her! I didn't think it was any of her business what people gave us!

I've had three weddings since mine this year and we've given what we would normally give, if not a little more than what they gave us. It's always been about the same anyway.

Re: After your wedding,

I hate to say it but we give back what the other couple gave us.

It's kind of sad b/c we were really surprised by a few gifts and now DH can't imagine giving such a small gift.

Re: After your wedding,

Thanks for all of your opinions. Its seems you're all split down the middle with give the same or what we would normally give. I'll let you know what we ultimately decide.

Re: After your wedding,

after our wedding, it was tough for us, because we had 5 wedding in june and july alone...so it was a lot of money we were spending on traveling, hotels and gifts....so while we tried to be fair to everyone, we didnt' give as much as we necessarily would have liked to....so we generally stuck with close to what they gave us
