Airfare question

Is it possible for airfare prices to drop from date of purchase to date of flight and that you receive a reimbursement.

Should I be checking the airlines website or should my travel agent contact me if this happens? I read a couple of posts where girls got their money back for drops of airline tickets.

Just curious.
