Albums and B&W's

Albums and B&W's

For those that have already designed their albums..... Did you have a combination of B&W and color photos in the album? Our photographer put together there first version of our album and they used all color. Some of my favorite pictures are B&W (specifically because they are B&W). I was wondering if people don't usually put B&W's in their albums??

Do you try to put all color or all B&W on pages facing eachother?? I should probably call our photographer and talk to them, but that seems like such a chore for some reason

Thanks in advance for your input!

We are mixing color and B&W, I think so far, we don't have them on the same page, but facing each other on 2 pages that are next to each other. Or, we will have 2 smaller b&w on the same page.

On our album, we will have both. They are mixed in based on the order of the day, and there are often color on one side, black and white on the other. This works well when there is say a formal color picture, but b&w candids facing them of the same moment.

we fully mixed in b&w with color - we have one page that has 2 color and 2 b&w on it, others that have them facing each other. They're scattered throughout the album. They look great mixed in. Its about 25% b&w.

Ours is about 15% B&W...definitely include the B&W if you love them...that's why you paid to have B&W photos, right?

We even changed some of our color photos to B&W just for the album.

I plan on mixing all of the different photo types in my album. My B&W photos are some of my favorites- why would you leave those out?

Thanks ladies! I'm so happy to hear that you're all using the B&W in your albums. I thought maybe they weren't considered formal enough or something. I'm generally a technical person, so when it comes to design type things I never trust myself.

Thanks again!

That is so unusual Our photographer loves B&W photography, and if it was up to her we would have an all b&w book but it is your decision on what goes in your album. We have b&w pages facing each other etc, she did not mix any together on say a composite pages. I think you need to speak up at once. Hope everything works out.

our mixed composite...this is the only page where we mixed B&W with color.

(we put an electronic version of our album together with the scanned proofs)

I havent done it yet but my guess is that 90% of my album will be black and white...Im just very partial to B&W to begin with and most of my favorites are B&W.

Stef, what about Luke??

Re: Albums and B&W's

As far as the album goes, Luke could care less. He just wants some photos to hang in his office and an album for his mother to make her happ. I can guarantee that the album is the last thing he would even think about - i could fill it with all photos of myself and he would jsut say 'fine'.

Dont get me wrong - he likes the photos too but he would also like really boring tradiitonal photos that I would hate.

I have a feeling Stef is more 'in-charge' of the album than Luke

Re: Albums and B&W's

Lisa- I love your pictures. Thanks for posting.

I should clarify..... I'm not sure our photographer intended for the final album to be all color. Maybe it was easier to put it together in all color as a first draft??
We've ( I really) already know that there are a lot of changes that we want to make, and we have that option. We will probably put our own together, and I wasn't sure how to handle the B&W's since I didn't have any example in the Photographers draft.

Thanks for the all your input! I think our album will be at least 50% B&W. Here's one of the few I have scanned....for your viewing pleasure
