Almost a Newlywed Crashing with a Question!

Almost a Newlywed Crashing with a Question!

Hi Ladies!

I am getting married tomorrow and can not WAIT to join this board! You were all such stunning brides and I fuly enjoyed seeing all of your pictures from your big day!

So sorry to crash this board but I have a question....did you or your DH give a speech at your reception (thanking everyone, etc). My FH is not big on public speaking but I have no problem with it so I would be the one giving the speech. Wasn't sure if this is something that is normally done. The past few weddings I have been at the bride/groom didn't say anything addressing all of the guests so I wasn't sure if it was OK if I stood up and said a quick something. Did any of you ladies or your DH's do this?

Thanks so much!!!!

Kristi

Edited for spelling!! Must be 'bride brain'

We did.
We had about 50 people fly in from all over the world and I felt that it was imp to thank them for doing so. If you're not afraid of public speaking - then you can do most of the talking and DH can just stand next to you and smile!

Have fun tomo!!!! Congrats!!!!!!!!!!

We didn't plan a speech or anything official. We just winged it. Don't worry - it'll be great! :)

Congrats & good luck!

I personally did thank everyone. I made a special announcement and presented a gift to my aunt for making my gown, so while I was up there I thanked my parents, MOH, BP and guests for coming. DH froze and didn't say a word

It's really totally up to you, I've been to alot of weddings where the bride and groom said something, and a few where they didn't say anything at all. So it's totally personal preference

Yep, I winged it as well... Even though I knew I'd present this gift to her, I didn't actually plan the 'speech'

This is totally going to be my FH. He does NOT like speaking in front of large groups! He panicks everytime he has to present for work!

Thank you so much for responding!

DH and I made a little TY speech. we didn't have a RD so we felt we should say something that day.

we kept it short and sweet--just thanking everyone for being there on our big day and helping make it the best day ever

we did at the RD..

we planned to do it at the wedding too but the time went by so fast!

both MOH and BM gave a speech and thanked everyone for coming
and we went around to every table and said hi to everyone and thanked them then...

Re: Almost a Newlywed Crashing with a Question!

nah... I always hated long winded speeches at a wedding. I just got up and thanked everyone for coming and sharing our day. Total time = 30 seconds....

We did not. Our Best Man, my father, and one of my Bridesmaids did, so we didn't.

Re: Almost a Newlywed Crashing with a Question!

We did not. We made a point of going to every table to thank people for coming and we had a receiving line. We also make VERY sure to get our TY cards out ASAP. (Already out and we haven't been married a month yet!)

Do whatever you feel comfortable doing. I've been to a lot of weddings and at maybe one did the bride and groom give a speech. It'll be lovely if you do it, but if you're not comfortable - don't worry about it.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Re: Almost a Newlywed Crashing with a Question!

We had about 50 of our 100 guests come in from another state or country. I got up and gave a little toast thaning them.....then DH got up and gave a little speech thanking my family for the wedding, everyone for coming, and then toasted ME

I was very embarrassed and still am.

Yes we did.
I gave one first after the cake cutting and then I gave DH the mic and he thanked everyone for flying in!
