Am I crazy? BCP

DH is convinced that my BCP makes me nuts (lol). I also noticed the last few months that around the 2nd week of the pack (i take Junel- generic for loestrin) i am very very moody, irritable and emotional. To add, i havent got AF since september. I'm not preggo and my doc said its normal for this pill. Instead of swicthing since ive been taking it for over a year, i decided to go off it completely just to get my body back to normal. Am I crazy for doing this?

Re: Am I crazy? BCP

Crazy? No. But just realize that the 2 months following you stopping BCP, you are your most fertile. So be careful unless you are ready!!

Re: Am I crazy? BCP

i stopped taking BCP for a while and was fine ... you're not crazy

but if you think this pill makes you extra-cranky, maybe a better solution is to get an rx for a new BCP?

Re: Am I crazy? BCP

yes, really bad acne flare ups and I never had acne problems as a teenager. It's so much worse now.

Also, as Mor said... my cramps are back to being how they were when I was 12. AWFUL.

I'm just saying. Be prepared. It's part of life I guess esp if you're going to be TTC sometime this year. You'll have to come off sooner or later I guess

Re: Am I crazy? BCP

Many of my pts (and also myself) have no AF on loestrin 24. Its my fave BCP. I haven't had any complaints of moodiness on that one, however of course its possible. I think u should maybe just try switching to a new pill. I wouldn't stop just to restart again. There's no reason to 'get it out of ur system' so to speak.

Its known for the 'shorter, lighter period' how fab!

Goood luck! Oh and if u don't want to concieve, CONDOMS!

Re: Am I crazy? BCP

I did the same thing a few years ago and it was the best decision I ever made. Just be careful about fertility. If you want to go on something else again talk to you doctor, they may be able to give you an IUD or something.

Are you saying be careful about fertility, implying that OCPs are linked to infertility? I appologize if I'm reading this wrong, but that's how it appears.
If that's what u are saying, that is a very false statement. I'm nervous that ur going to scare all of these girls off of their OCPs or other hormonal contraceptives. Or any contraceptive for that matter.

Again if I'm wrong, I'm sorry. Just trying to clear this up.

Re: Am I crazy? BCP

no you're not crazy for going off it.
i was on loestrin forever. i didn't get my period for YEARS.
went off it, and then 28 days later.... bought tampons for the first time in probably 4-5 years.

i read this completely differently, like she was saying be careful if you don't want to get pregs bc you may be very fertile and since you're not on the pill anymore ...

no your not crazy. I have a friend who said the pill made her an emotional nutcase so she went off of it and either uses condoms or just pull and pray!

Yeah, I was saying you're going to be very fertile. Hence she should look into another form of BC.

OK cool! Sorry again! Its a common question that patients ask me. BTW, I LOVE the IUD. Not all MDs will put one into a woman who has not yet been pregnant/has a child. But if u can find one that will, its a fab option. (But isn't for everybody). Talk to your dr, lots of good stuff out there!
