Time for me to put my foot in my mouth once again.
Everyone on this board goes GA-GA over certain photographers and their engagement shots, wedding shots and day after shots...
I look at these pics, which are brought up on a weekly basis and I think
They seem to get weirder, a little more erotic and less wedding-y as the months go by?
WHAT would I do with pics of me and DH frolicking in the forest in our wedding clothes? Or Epics of us with our eyes closed lying on top of each other?
What do you do with these kinds of shots? Would I hang them in my house? Im pretty sure my friends would make fun of me. Would it be a special little album that we look at together to relive the memory? Seems like a waste.
I am all for the sentimental, cute photojournalistic shots.. some of them are my favorite wedding pics that I have... but I feel like things are getting weird! Am I the only one?

i completely understand what you are talking about. When i look at some of these sexy and erotic photojournalistic shots i also think, 'what would one do with this picture, they cant even put it on a STD or on their wall' lol...ehhh i guess what ever floats your boat.

I actually really like photojournalistic shots but they have to be tasteful. I'm not a fan of posed pictures at all b/c they look unnatural and too contrived for me. The photojournalistic pics I like are black and white or have funky colors with interesting selections of body parts, flowers, angles etc...
But I have seen some slightly nudie picks that are tasteless in my opinion and I think those are very inappropriate for a wedding.
It's all subjective. That's why we all get to pick a photog for our weddings that can take the shots we would like in our albums.

I am with you on the 'erotic' looking shots. They kind of freak me out. I find them bordering on inappropriate.
BUT not all of them are like that. I had a photojournalist and I have no freaky shots. Nothing weird at all. I can hang them in my house.

Well, I think there is a HUGE difference between Photojournalistic shots and what you are describing...The 'erotic shots' and the like are more like fashion photography...I had a photojournalist ( from the NY Times no less!) shoot my wedding and nothing was posed or manipulated. These shots are VERY posed and though I think they are beautiful it's not photojournalism.

It's funny that you mention this, I went to see a very photojournalistic photographer when I was planning and considering switching photogs with my mom (who is not a super traditional person)... my mom nearly had a heart attack as some of the pics that they showed us-- she said 'Its your wedding, not some magazine shot, you wont want these to show your grandchildren' I thought she was being ridiculous at the time, but the more I think about it, the more it seems to make sense....

I think people get caught up in the special effects, crazy angles and sexy poses that they see posted on here.
Everyone has a vision of what they want their pictures to look like. We wanted a mix of photojournalistic and traditional (NO posing to make it look like it was caught in the moment, but actually catching us in the moment)... we wanted a story of our day and that's what we got. Good thing there are tons of photographers to choose from!

uh-oh! Im thinking like a Mom???
I just think brides get caught up in 'wow, thats cool, looks like a magazine!'
But can you honestly see yourself sitting down with your kids and being like.. here's mommy and daddy in their wedding clothes... mommy's legs are wrapped around a pole while daddy stares at her bosom from above.
There is definitely a big difference between 'traditional journalistic'.. candid shots of people laughing, smooching, etc. and this 'new age' magazine type pics that I think will just seem silly one day.

i like you!!
i totally agree with you on cry packs and pretty much agree with you on this topic.
i think it does get out of hand. I like artsy shots however a whole album is just too much. and too many sexy shots is tasteless.

I agree.. I think there are def. two different styles of photojournalistic images. The new age posed, racey images are a little absurd to me. Especially the nudie ones. Where do those pictures go besides in the 'treasure chest'?? They definitely can't go in the dining room.
However, a nice mix of PJ and traditional photography is nice to me. I feel like you need traditional shots to 'see' everyone. Everyone is looking at the camera, no stupid faces, etc..
I think quite a bit of wedding elements are trendy right now. I feel the swing in wedding styles is in the direction of trendy and hot.. A few years back the swing was on traditional, timeless weddings.. Now its all about wahts hot right now..

I have to disagree...
I think no matter what approch you look at someone will always have a different viewpoint as to what they think is nice or not.
We chose photojournalistic approach bc when I pose I make wierd cheesy smiles and the pictures do not come out nice. I didn't want an album full of awkward looking pictures. The day of our wedding our photographer let us go have a couple of 'moments' and we really loved our pictures in the end. Our guests didn't even notice the photographer and I feel like he really captured the feeling of our wedding day.
People 'humping' in pictures can be posed or not posed We didn't go that route but other people may want to remember how affectionate they felt on their wedding day. To each his own!

I totally agree!!! Photojournalism is fine but it can get to be way too much like how you described. I like the traditional shots too.

Am I the only one who hasn't seen nudie wedding pics?? or that disagrees haha
I like PJ pics....I think they are beautiful, I wish I had more of them.
I think everyone likes what they like....you might not like them but it doesn't mean that someone else's pics are useless and unable to show their kids when they're older. It's what kind of photography they like. You say frolicking in the forest or laying on top of eachother with there eyes closed almost as if you make fun of someone's pictures, which I think is unfair just b/c you don't like them.....I can picture a few brides on this site that have these pics and I think they're gorgeous and I would totally hang them up in my house....I don't think my friends would ever make fun of them.
I have to disagree here

Re: Am I the only one that thinks that the wedding photojournalistic photography has gotten a little out of hand?
OMG...this is so funny b/c I often think the same thing. Its a matter of taste though. I did indeed have PJ pictures, but they were all regular natural candid scenes. No frolicking in the woods in a gown or anything like that. I am not the type, and neither is DH, to take photos of us lying in the folds of my gown in a fetal postion, or with his hand up my dress squeezing my bootie, ore him on his knees hugging and kissing my waist. I get embarrassed very quickly......I'm NOT a prude, but I feel very awkward in certain situations, and sometimes feel that way when looking at some of the types of photos you describe. I would never want to be embarrassed to show my proofs to family and friends, and just don't have the personality to do these types of photos.
That is just my opinion though. I'm sure people on here would argue that my photos lacked 'creativity' because there are no shots of DH and I making love under my veil, or with him laying in my lap. Just a matter of taste. OMG, I'm hysterically laughing right now at the mere thought of posing for these and how DH and how awkward I would feel .

I don't dislike them... In fact, if I saw them in a magazine I would think oh, pretty girl.. or oh, nice dress, cool photography.
I definitely believe in different strokes for different folks...
That being said...there comes a point where it goes from artsy and reflections of wedding romance to almost silly and ridiculous. (see examples in Future Mrs. post above) I would expect my friends to make fun of them if I put them up.... in a loving 'putting me in my place these are a little ridicuolous why there a photo of your husband in the fetal position in a tuxedo on your wall' kind of way.
I just think alot of brides are trying to hard to look like a Brides magazine photo shoot.
Just bored at work and finally catching up with LIW....

I have to comment b/c I am one of those girls w/one of those photogs. It is just for fun. I would not show it to my 80 yr old aunt or put it in my album or sit down w/my kids and show them. There wasn't anyone around us besides the photogs when we took the pics. By all means everything is not for everyone I just like to keep things a little spicy.
To answer your question-we will probably put them in DH's 'man den' in the house or in our bedroom. They are for us and they were fun shooting but our photogs also took plenty of wedding-y pics of us doing other things and of our BP and family group shots-they are just from different angles and have a little twist to them.

This is BY FAR the best answer Ive ever gotten to a post on LIW. Thank you for answering my question (without flaring up into a hated rage). Your answer makes alot of sense.
I can honestly say I wasnt speaking of you specifically. In fact, I havent even seen your pictures (but will look after I write this! )
I gotta get my husband one of these 'man dens'
