Amsterdam

Amsterdam

So I've booked Paris for the second part of our honeymoon and DH really wants me to extend our trip so that we'd spend a few nights in Amsterdam.

Any recommendations for what to do in Amsterdam?

Any tips?

What to avoid?

A must see?

Tours?

Nightlife?

I know that we have to walk around the Red Light District - we had a 2-hour layover there a few years ago, but that's all that we'd had the time to do.

Thank you!

its been a few years but....

The Van Gogh Museum
The Anne Frank House
another museum.... forget the name - has all impressionist art. Rembrandt & such....
Take a canal cruise/tour. Or rent a water bike & pedal around the city
Coffee shops
The Bulldog is a decent place to stay. Near red light district. Not fancy schmancy but fun..

we rented bikes & rode all around. It was awesome.

Re: Amsterdam

I have been there 4X in the last 3 years. I also know people there. I love it and plan to go back again in Sept.

I always stay at the Crown Plaza. It is a little on the pricey side, but very nice Hotel, walking distance to the red light and other main attractions.

FM any specific questions you might have, what things you might want to see there, etc.. and will be glad to help

Yes that is where they are, but that is also where most of the museums are, coffee cafes, nightlife, etc.. I felt safe walking around there, honestly the biggest crime in Amsterdam is bicycle theft. Prostitution is very controled there, it's not as if they are walking around the streets begging for your money.

no they aren't asking for $ - its actually REALLY weird.

You know how when WE go shopping we look at things in the window?

Ok, imagine this... there are 'stores' and the thing for 'sale' is in the window, like a normal store. Except the thing is a woman. Its so weird. Its just women sitting in windows waiting for someone to come in & 'buy'them. Its fascinating. But its actually a very safe area.

ETA - one of our bikes did get stolen
