anniversary gifts

what are you giving or did you give for your first annversary gift? traditional is paper, modern is clocks.

Re: who's giving/gave 'paper' as the traditional first anniversary gift?

I guess I'll answer too.......I bought DH tickets to a Mets game as a gift (its the 2nd to last regular season game at Shea....couldn't afford the last game for the seats I bought- 6 rows behind home plate!!)....they were $175 a seat for 9/27 and $2500 for the same seats on Stubhub for the last game!!

DH is totally baffled by what to get me, I told him books are on paper, or concert tickets, or tix to a Broadway show.....someone at work told me to tell him to just wrap it in paper and it'll count he bought me a watch for my b-day, so can't do the modern version of 'clocks'.

ooooo just looking on Barnes & Noble b/c I want to put his tickets inside of a book just to throw him off and make him think that's his real gift (he hates reading!! lol)........how about this:

These are so cute! DH and I decided not to get each other gifts since we are going to St. Martin for a week!!! The paper idea is cute though...I didn't think of that. Now I have to get him something cute for out 1 year, but how do I hint it to him about the first year being paper without seeming like I want him to buy me something.

I just got my tickets too for DH. We are going to the last game, which happens to be on my birthday (great) but they are no where near as good as the seat you got. The ones I wound up buying are field boxes but all the way down the line.

Re: anniversary gifts

Well this is a bad day to answer, BUT I'm tossing around the idea of a gift certificate to our local ER if he continues to annoy the everliving cr*p out of me.
J/K I'm sure I'll be fine by November...

Great books HELEN!!!!! I'd like to buy ALL of them for DH, but he hates reading too, unless the subject is hunting/fishing/nature stuff/paramilitary stuff/ or conspiracy theories..

Re: anniversary gifts

We really didn't exchange gifts. We went to the Bahamas for our anniversary. But I did get him a book. It's called The Book of Us. It has a different question on each page that you answer about your relationship. It was corny but followed the paper tradition as just a little something extra.

DH is a huge football/baseball card collector. so im going to the guy he buys from and get him a bunch of cards (paper). and he's always wanted to go to montauk, but i can't afford a weekend there. so im going to surprise him and throw him in the car for a day trip. We'll see the lighthouse and have dinner.

For me he got tickets to see Rent which we saw last sunday. i only got an early gift cause Rent goes off broadway this sunday.

that's definitely enough!! have fun in the city!!!! where are you staying? my cousin did this a couple of years ago for her anniversary, they had a blast!!

we wouldn't have decided to exchange gifts, except that we never celebrated our 'dating' anniversary for the 7 of 'em before we got married, so I feel in a way this is almost our first 'real' one

The thing is I am soo about 'following' silly guidelines like it is a paper anniversary ..etc.. So I want to do something small but not over the top b/c of our planned wkd.

We are staying at the Mandarin Oriental, I have been dying to go for about 2yrs. It is finally happening

You have to celebrate somehow I agree Me on the other hand has always made DH celebrate our yr anniversary's. Far as I am concerned he gets away good b/c our wedding anniversary is the same date as our actual dating anniversary or I would have made him celebrate two dates -
oh wait I do have two dates - I forgot I married twice
That means two anniversary's

back to you.. .. why don't you spend the wknd in the city

I would love too! maybe next year though, we already made plans for the anniv. in like January b/c DH paid for this discounted vacay (we have to go to some stupid timeshare thingy).....it was like $900 for both of us, 4 nights in Orlando and 3 nights on a mini-cruise to the Bahamas on Royal Carribean, that is if these friggin' hurricanes cooperate!!

Re: anniversary gifts

i want to go on vacation; that's my only plan for our anniversary, and maybe a nice dinner. DH's best friend is getting married the weekend after our 1 year in Philly, so I'm not sure about a full vacay but at least he knew to tell the guys no bachelor party on 5/31 weekend

maybe a weekend away somewhere. I love all your ideas though and I might need to get that book he'd probably get pissed at me though since he cooks more than i do.

ETA: I think I'm going to get him a really nice watch for christmas this year. i am OUT of ideas; the boy has everything

Our gift is going to be going on vacation so I am trying to think of something a little extra for the paper part. We are driving so I can't even get him the plane tickets LOL
