Annulment 2 weeks after wedding (no, not mine!)

Original post by skinny237

We went to a wedding 2 months ago. We heard a rumor that the couple got in a huge fight on their honeymoon, came back early, and she moved back in with her parents. It's true. The couple got an annulment! Friends of ours are mad that the couple didn't return the gifts. I think they should keep them bc we had a good time at the wedding and got to eat/ drink/ hang out w/ friends. What do u guys think?

BTW...the couple was together for 6 years before getting married!

I think anyone who expects gifts back are petty and tacky! I would never expect for a gift back....It's called a GIFT...no matter what. I would never have the nerve to think..'they better give me my money or wtvr it was back.' Like you said, its a celebration, you celebrated had a good time. The only thought would be 'poor girl' and hey why not 'poor guy' (I don't know the story). I hope the best for them even if its in their separate lives. I have gone to friends wedding knowing they would not last and proof being they did not last more than a year but I would never say 'hhhmmmmm I should give the x $ bc they will split soon' I go to have a good time and give them what comes from the heart out of love. I would think people gave gifts out of love and not compromise and I hope they would have class not to expect it back or even mention they expect it.

If its not used - return them, if its money - return it. Sorry if you made it a year I can let it slide before a year I want something back because that is b/s. I would do it if it had happened to me because I feel its only dignified to do so and this way when you get married again their are no hard feelings.

I have been in this situation with people who got married and about a month or two down the road they split - they gave back all the money they received but didn't give back a shower gift or engagement gift because it was used which I completely understand.

If they have yet to use the gifts, then I think they should return them.

WHen i go to a wedding, i give a gift...not thinking if the marriage will last 20 years or 20 months...it doesnt matter. I am sure at this point between the devastation they feel they are not even thinking about gifts and stuff...and its only been 2 weeks right? how do you know they will not eventually send the gifts back. Just my opinion though.... i would never expect a gift back really...it might be nice of the person to say hey u know it didnt work out i dont want to cash in the check or use it etc etc...but im not going to be shocked
