So I was making a red velvet cake from scratch the other day and the recipe called for cake flour. I didn't have cake flower, nor did I know there was a difference so I used all purpose flour. It was awful! The cake came out SOOOO dense. My question is, iwhere do you buy cake flour and have any of you experienced this???

Re: Another baking question
I'm pretty sure cake flour is much lighter and fluffier - that way the cupcakes you were baking would have come out the same way with it. I haven't had a problem finding it around me but I just looked up a substitute for you. Cake flour substitute

Whole Foods usually has it. I've never looked at William Sonoma, but maybe they have it too?

Usually cake flour is on the top shelf, and not always with the other flours.

Re: Another baking question
I have always bought cake flour in the supermarket. If you do not see it on the shelf ask b/c it is not always with the regular flour. The reason you cake was so dense is all purpose flour has a higher gluten content then cake flour.
