Another dog question

Another dog question

For those of you with toy or small dogs, do you use a harness? Are they safe? I just started bringing my puppy outside, he still doesn't know how to walk or go to the bathroom outside, he takes a few steps then lays down lol. The smallest size collar is huge on him, he hates it and I'm afraid he is going to slip out of it. I'm thinking one of those velcro harnesses might be better?

Our dog is small-maybe 10 lbs (if that) and we've always used a harness on her- it's safe

My dog isnt small but he was a small size collar when we got him and with a regular collar he pulled when we would take him out. We switched to a harness and he still pulls but not as bad and not all the time.....he is slowly learnign how to walk on a leash.

I posted this last time, but I have a Yorkie and I was told only to use a harness. Walking him on a collar could potentially collapse his trachea. I'm not sure what type of dog you have, but I know I'm not supposed to walk mine on a collar. You could ask your breeder or vet to be sure.

It is safer to use a harness on a toy dog then a collar with a leash. We have two, one that is just straps and then a velcro vest one. She doesn't mind it at all and basically wears it all day, making it easy to put her in and out. If you start him/her early with it they will get used to it.

As for a collar, I have a cat collar on Candy. This is for a few reasons... its smaller but still has her tags, it pops off if she got it caught on anything, and it has a bell so we can find her anywhere and avoid stepping on her.

A poodle. I know they are prone for this as well.
