Another In Law question - (sorry) (and its long)

Original post by dubliner

I think my inlaws have asked my DH who gave what at the wedding. In fact, I know. I have no problem saying 'so and so gave us a lovely vase', but checks wise, I don;t think its anyones business. I kind of forsaw that this might happen and I brought this up to him before the wedding that I did not think it was anyone's business who gave what. Last night he asked me if I had made a spreadsheet of the gifts (which I hadn't), so I am guessing why he asked.

Is it common for parents to ask? - I don't think the thought even crossed my parents minds.

I really don't want to share this info, aparently they (DH's parents) want to reciprocate a generous gift to other peoples children...but IMO, when you go to a wedding its not about payback - maybe I'm wrong.

I don't want to put my foot down if this is a common thing - parents knowing gifts

my MIL thinks it is her business to know exactly who gave me what, and how much!! ! ETC...
She is actually angry at my and DH because we wont tell. It is nobody's business. She keeps trying, as if I owe her this info. We do not owe her anything. I refuse to tell, I dont think that is right.

Edited to say that she does not want this info so she can reciprocate to others. She is not a generous gift giver at all.

My parents asked what their close friends and their close family gave- so they know what to give at some future weddings. I had no problem telling them. But DH's family never asked and I didn't share.

His parents did ask and I am creating a spread sheet for them. They asked so they would be appropriate at other friends weddings. They do not want to short change anyone...which I don't think they could because they are such generous people. After everything they have done for us, I was more than happy to share.
