Okay so my natural hair is blonde, pretty light too, but I went to my hairdresser and had her dye it dark brown first week of December. It faded sooooo much and my roots looked gray so my MIL and I used an at home kit to do it again last week. I just didn't want to go back and pay $100 again at my hairdresser and since I already had the color in my hair I thought no problem. Here's my dilemma: its only in my hair 1 week and its faded again sooooo much!!!! It just won't stay dark. I have a bridal shower next week that I'm apart of and I want my hair to be dark, is it too soon to dye it again next weekend?? I also don't want to damage my hair.... Or do I need to give up I will never have brown hair

I'm not a hairdresser but I meant to tell you last Friday how great your hair looked brown! Seeing it in pics it looked nice but in person the color looks great on you. So funny you are naturally blonde most people have blonde hair with black roots coming in i want to see pics of brown with blonde coming in.

Re: Any Hairdressers out there?
hmm...if u have a decent hairdresser & ur using a color stay shampoo it should stay. I'd stay away from box dyes...i know its a lot cheaper - but for people with really light hair going dark(or vise-versa) that stuff fades so quick...in the long run - u're just gonna have to spend more money getting more dye so it's kind of going to even out money wise & it's just gonna be ur time & energy. I have an AWESOME stylist in suffolk county if u wanna go see her...otherwise invest in a good color shampoo. I actually like Tressemme(sp?) Color Revitalize (i THINK that's what it's called) but i use it for my highlights...not sure if it'll hold up as well on a whole dye job but u can try it! if u want a nice highend product Aveda makes an AWESOME shampoo & conditioner line...it's called Color Conserve. It's like $14 a bottle but it WORKS.

The shampoo I'm using is that tressemme color one for dark colored hair I always used the blonde one when I had highlights.... It looked so good last week at the PP cause i had just had it done...I guess I should just go back and see if she can do it again. I'm only doing in now, but by may I will be blonde again I think... I swear I love the brown!!!!

What kind of dye are you using ? semi- or permanent ?
My hairdresser dyes my hair dark brown. It is a bit darker than my natural color, but I am also 40% gray. She uses a permanent color, and I don't have a lot of fading. The type of shampoo and how often you shampoo has a lot to do with fading. My hairdresser is in Douglaston, if you want to give her a try. She color corrected me after a disatrous trip to a top salon in Bayside that I have been going to for a while.

I would DEFINETLY get the aveda one if u can get ur hands on it. See if there are any salons near u - if not u can always order it online...it's awesome. i work with girls who dye their hair dark & their color is always looking fab.

Re: Any Hairdressers out there?
I checked pics of your hair and I can see you have high lights (had) high lights. You have to fill in the color that has been taken out. Each time you darken your hair it stays better. Think of your hair as a garbage bag when you high light it your pulling the everything out of the bag (your pigment) So when you want the color to be darker you basically have to stuff the bag back by filling the color back into your hair. The high lights open your cuticle and by depositing the darker color you help fill in those hairs so it will sty longer each time.

I use a great shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. It's by L'anza. I love it!! It's called Colored Preserving, there's also a leave in treatment I use after I get out of the shower called Trauma Treatment by L'anza before I dry my hair -- they are great!! You can get them at Ulta

heather doooooooo NOT keep coloring it every 2 weks its so bad for your hair. you need to deposit hair color onto your blonde hair. permanent dye might not be the answer for you. when you use permanent hair color you use 20 volume peroxide which in the law of color your swelling the cuticle of the hair shaft the first 15 mins and depositing color the last 15 mins which you Do NOT need to do. you don;t need to swell your cuticle open anymore then it is because your highlited hair has done already. you need to just add color which is what semi permanent color does. its like staining a piece of wood the more you stain it the darker it gets. thats what you need to do. but after a while thers a trick you cannot keep coloring your whole head because your ends will get darker and your regrowth will stay lighter even using the same color because like i said the more you color it the more it stains it.so eventually your ends stay brown and the new hair is your natural color so it stays lighter. so then eventually you need to do the regrowth first for 30 mins then your ends for 5 to 10 mins.
also use a color shampoo like the all the girls suggested. DO NOT use any type of shampoo that adds volume to your hair that tends to open the hair cuticle so you get some volume but with color it pulls some color out.. you can fm me if you have more questions. i been doing hair 16 years .if ya want to count my schooling for it ouch that would be 18 holy cow.
also you may need to do your hair color very 4 to 6 weeks thats what the norm is.

Re: Any Hairdressers out there?
thank you soooo much!!!
So do i tell my hair dresser to use semi-permantant? i just dyed it last friday, so this friday was 1 week, but all of the color is completly gone, can I have it done professionally next weekend?? and if not, i can't take all this work, its so annoying that the color won't stay my roots actually look gray where the blonde is coming in how do i just go back to the blonde, what would be the safest way?

the new hair growth looks grey because of the contrast with the brown hair. i personally would go back to blonde with lowlights. if you want more brown you can tell your hairdresser to weave the blonde foil and the to slice the lowlight which would be a brown color. this techinque will give you more brownsih color with blonde hightliths this way when the roots start growing in it doesn't look so black and white.
its going to be very hard to go from brown back to the blonde you were in one shot. your besy bet is the high/low lites.
what brand of color does your hairdresser use???? it may not work well for you.
other option is to try the semi permament color. you might also want to not wash your hair every day and the day you color it wait 24 to 48 hours before you wash it.
