Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

How are you coping with it? I'm having a hard time. Granted it's only been two weeks, but John on overnights doesn't help. I can't seem to sleep at all and I'm ALWAYS tired & miserable during the day

Is anyone else having a hard time adjusting? I'm okay with being married, but having a hard time living away from home and having to deal with 'grown up' things. I know I probably sound like a baby.

Anyone else out there?

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

I'm sorry you're feeling this way. Although I lived on my own for 8 years before I moved in with David, I don't sleep well when he's not in bed. There are nights when he is out until 2 am, and I wake up every 20 minutes until he comes home. Learning to live on your own, whether by yourself or with someone else, takes time because there is so much you need to learn how to do on your own. I wish you luck and lots of sleep!

Living with someone new - whether or not you lived on your own before - is an adjustment. You just have to get used to it. Dont worry, it will pass and you will start thinking how you ever could have lived any other way!

I think we all go thru this 'adjustment period'. I hope it passes soon. It took me a little while for the reality to hit that I had my own household to run, which I am responsible for, groceries, laundry, decorating. Etc etc. You will get used to it soon.

I was very upset for quite some time. Im now about 30-45 mins. from my parents, and my sister(We are like best friends, and used to see her everyday.
It was very tough. My BIL told me when I was moving she cried
Trust me you will get over it, it will take some time

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

Thank you ladies!!!

What makes it worse is that I'm in the same town as my parents and my new house has the same layout as the one I'm used to. I didn't think it would hit me this hard! I guess this to shall pass!

Thank you all again!

I'll be joining you in the adjustment phase on November 14th! It's moving day for me, and it's going to be a huge adjustment from Suffolk to the Bronx!! I have no idea what kind of emotions are going to run through me...

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

Lauren I went through the same thing. I had never lived on my own before either. Don't worry, it only lasts a few weeks at most. I missed my family and was always used to having lots of people and commotion around. I even missed my own bed. And when DH worked long hours, I was so lonely!!! But now I love everything about living with him and I soooo appreciate my alone time. It's so peaceful!! I wouldn't trade it for the world!!!!!

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

I felt the same way. We moved in together the day we got back from the honeymoon and his schedule changed form 7-3 Monday-Friday to a different schedule every week. He could be home at 11pm, overnights, almost every weekend. I was home alone alot and would cry. I hate when he works overnights and I have to sleep by myself. He works for Keyspan and I totally can relate to cop and firefighters wives now. I now am completely adjusted to living with my new husband, being a wife and his crappy schedule.
I visit friends, go shopping or go and visit my mother. I think keeping busy helps.

yep, I went through this for a little while as well. It was very hard moving from a house full of people and seeing everyone every day to just the two of us, and seeing everyone maybe once a week. Now I'm used to it, but the beginning was very hard.

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

Aaaaaaaah thank you ladies!!! I think last night was the first time I may have considered my new house 'home', it didn't take John long to adjust. I have one more week with his overnights and maybe then I can get back to normal! Thanks again!

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

Lauren-
Although I don't have the same feelings b/c I've been living on my own since I was 18... there was an adjustment period.
I'm so happy to be married now b/c it does feel different! It'll get better, I promise!

I felt the same way. Octbride, I think we've spoken about this b4 and we both have similar thoghts on this topic. I moved in with my Husband the day we got back from the honeymoon. The first night we spent togetehr in our new home was the wedidng night. I feel weird now and sometimes sad b/c I miss my family terribly but it is so wonderful to be with DH. Our adjustment period wasn't bad at all. he was so comforting and understanding when i got sad. he knows how close I am too my family and he respects that (God I love him, lol). Many peopel choose to live together b4 hand but i didn't and it was the best decision ever. It's sad but so amazing at the same time. You'll get used to it.

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

Thanks Michelle! I'm sure it'll get better!

Curly - thanks for your response! I thought it was you who was in the same situation! It's getting easier for me. Now I look forward to going home to see HIM right away! no one else!

The first night there after our HM I think John must've thought I was nuts, VERY bad emotional night for me. But I got through it!

Thanks again!!

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

It is definitely an adjustment. When DH and I got married and we moved into our home, I missed my family so much. It was always my mom, me and my 2 sisters. I felt like I was missing out.

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

Lauren- I was sooooooooooo emotional we didn't even have a honeymoon night if you know what i mean. I cried more after the wedding then at the wedidng. BUT, he was sooooooooo amazing. he just held me and comforted me while I got over it. It sounds pathetic now but you know what it feels like if you come from a household like I did. It was VERY hard to leave but also very necessary and amazing.

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

Maybe I'm weird but I didn't have a hard time adjusting. We both lived with our parents until we got married and I think we both were at the point that we needed to get out of parents house.

I love living with my husband, even when he leaves all his clothes in a pile right next to the hamper.
