Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

I had an extremely hard time adjusting and to be honest am probably not fully adjusted yet and our one year is this Sunday.

I came from living with my mom and younger brother and sister. We are extremely close and did everything together. I never went even one day without seeing them practically so it was tough.

I was the same as Curly..the second we arrived at the hotel the night of our wedding all I did was cry. I felt pathetic! My dh was awesome with me as well. When we went away, I missed them so much and on the way back from our hm all I kept thinking is wow now i gotta go home with him..I am not going home to Moms.

It sounds crazy but I find it hard to go back home now because when I am there, I miss it so much. Dont get me wrong, I love my dh and living with him, has nothing to do with that at all...I just found it very hard to adjust..so know that you arent alone at all! If you ever need to talk..fm me!

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

i feel the same way as many of you ladies too...i am glad i'm not the only one who is somewhat sad not to be at home anymore. my family is very close & although we only live a few minutes away, i miss being home.

i too was very emotional the night of our wedding...DH was really comforting & sweet...it just hit me so hard that the wedding was over & that i wouldn't be 'living at home' anymore...

i am happy to finally live with DH but at the same time it is a big adjustment for both of us...i know it will take a while to get used to living together...but i am excited that we have begun our new life together...

to all the new ladies who posted.

Girls who said they were ready to move out of their parents house. I was there too and felt that my time was up, but now that it's here. I wanna go back Well it's not that bad, it's getting better everyday, like I said I LOVE coming home to DH, but at the same time, I want to drive past the house sometimes and go straight home

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

Lauren,

I know how you feel. Last night as I was watching hubby leave for work from our new driveway it hit me that I was a 'grown up' now. I have a house, a husband and bills to pay. Real responsibilites. I lived alone prior to getting married but being a newlywed in a new house felt very different. I suddenly appreciated all the things my parents did for me .

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

My neighbors are great. I just need to get used to the commute! Otherwise still adjusting. Last night I missed my parents I started crying as I was dusting some pictures. I feel a little lonely I have to admit. You are going to laugh but last night with the rain and thunder (and being home alone) I felt like I was in the woods!

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

Sorry, but it took me awhile to answer this post because I did not know how.

Prior to getting married I lived with my Aunt. We are very close and we had more of a roomate/friendship situation going on.

I have not lived with my 'parents' in forever though. My mom and I are not close and my father is deceased (did not know him)

I must admit marriage and living with Dh has been an adjustment, but it has more to do with me getting used to him and his living habits and less to do with missing home.

I miss my family and all, but I guess I came to the realization before and after the wedding that it is time to move on. There were no tears on my part, just acceptance of reality.

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

I missed home too for all of the same reasons you ladies mentioned; close family (brother and his family live two doors away - other brothers live within a mile or so), always 'something' going on at the house, my pets, my pool, etc. My mom and I are extremely close. When it got time to leave (even though it was six months after we were married because 'our' house wasn't liveable during the first part of our marriage), I was a mess. I cried like a baby as I drove away - not so much because I missed 'my home' (I had already helped Mom and Dad re-decorate my apartment upstairs), it killed me to leave my dog and cat. Bob wouldn't let me bring my cat (he has a protein issue where he pukes every minute - like mother like son these days ) and my dog was suffering from severe separation anxiety where she would bug out if she was taken away from my mother for long periods. Mom didn't want to part with either of them and kept them both. I sneak home still as much as I can to see them, even though I live 70 miles round-trip. Husband has issues with some of the time I spend there (especially in the summer since the pool is mine and it's too old to relocate). I say 'tough!' to him because he can come too. I had to put up with years of him being a Mama's boy - paybacks are a biotch!!

Re: Any Newlyweds out there who are living on their own for the first time??

That has got to be a BIG adjustment. A friend of mine just got married and I went to get her bridal shower gift and my husband was dead shock when he saw her list. She is in her thirties and has always lived at home so she needed everything. I mean she had garbage cans on there.

My husband said he would be scared to death to leave his house for the first time married.

I thought about it and I said I agree. That has go to be an even bigger adjustment oppose to people who lived on their own for a while and then got married.

I say all this to say I think it is normal what you are going through. It time it will pass.

Enjoy your newlyewed years. The time goes by so fast.
