Re: any recipes for homemade tomatoe sauce

2 - 12oz cans of tomato puree
1 - 6oz can tomato paste
1 can of water (use the paste can)
dried italian seasoning
2-3 packets of sweet-n-low
1 tablespoon grated parmigiana cheese
salt & pepper to taste
garlic powder & onion powder to taste
2-3 cloves of garlic
1 medium onion
1-2 tablespoons of EVOO

chop the onion and garlic and start to saute it in the EVOO in the bottom of a large pot. once the onion starts to look a little see-through turn the heat way down to simmer.. and add alll of the above ingredients. I do everything by eye most of the time whatever you think looks good. give it a good stir...put the cover on and let it simmer for 30 mins. make sure you give it a stir every once in a while to make sure it doesnt burn. make sure you taste it after like 20 min.. you'll get a good feel for the flavor and you can add what it needs. (DH likes to add hot pepper flakes to his) The Sweet-n-low (i know sounds so gross) but it cuts the acidity in the tomatos and avoids the belly aches from sauce also gives it a nice sweet flavor.. if you dont want it too sweet i would go with 2 packets if you like sweet go for 3 you could do even 4.
it comes out great.. i wouldnt recommend cooking it for more then an hour it tends to get more acidic when it cooks too long.

i hope you enjoy!

go onto the foodnetworks website. You'll find tons of different ones. I personally suck at making sauce! But I have gotten some great recipes from that website

Re: any recipes for homemade tomatoe sauce

2 large (idk how many oz's it is) cans of WHOLE peeled tomatoes
2 tbs chopped onion
1 tsp chopped garlic (from a jar...in OO)
1 small bunch of basil
salt and pepper
1 tbsp sugar
EVOO

sautee chopped onion and garlic in 2 tbsp EVOO

empty both cans of tomatoes into a large sauce pot and crush by hand (they squirt and it's messy...wear black)

add garlic and onion with the EVOO, a pinch (probably about 1-2 tsp of sugar) Salt & Pepper to taste. Throw in the basil (I remove it later bc there are people that don't like 'green stuff' in my house lol)

Let this simmer for about 20 mins and you're good to go. This isn't one of those 'all day' sauces.

Some spin-offs:

To this sauce, add 1/2-1 cup of Ricotta Cheese and serve over Ravioli

To this sauce, add some red wine and make with Egg Plant parmigianna

For a thicker sauce, add 1/2 small can of Tomato Paste to thicken it up for Rigatoni, or Chicken Parm

Add 3/4lb chopped meat browned for Bolognese sauce........

oh the list goes on :)
