I dunno if it's the florescent lights or WHAT, but I always get totally grossed out whenever I'm in the process of getting my haircut. My face always looks so pasty and I can see like every blemish. And then that covering they put over you like a turtle neck? ick.. Makes my face look so fat. lol.
I experienced that today (but luckily the aftermath was a perfect haircut)
Is it just ME? Anybody else get self-conscious at the salon?

Yes, and the same thing happens when I am at the doctors also lol It must be the lighting. I hate the cape b/c it makes me look fat, but when it all does come off it looks great.
Did you get your haircut by the students???

I usually think it's okay when they do it, but feel they may blow dry it weird. I always like it best a few days afterwards when i have the hang of it.

yup, i went today!!! She did an awesome job. Somehow even in Colorado I was able to manage finding a New Yorker to do my hair. lol.
She definitely kept it the same basic style, just with more bounce to it. I'm going next week to have it colored. Still not sure what i wanna do yet. Probably nothing drastic, but I'd like red in it. Maybe auburn? I think she put me down for highlights, but maybe I'll want to change that and just do my whole head. lol. We'll see!!

I'll try to get some pics. I'm not sure how much they charge, I forgot to check. But I assume that if a haircut is only $5, a dye job couldn't be too much either.

yes! I hardly ever wear make-up but I always wear make up when I get my haircut because I look very ugly in the lights there and with the blanket thing on.

Im the opposite. LOL. I love the two salons I alternate between. They are in Maine though. But the lighting makes me look wonderful. HAHAHA. Maybe its the type of lights some of them use? No one is benefiting from flourescent lights!

I do too! I hate it. My girl also has been working at Spas. Everyone was always snoby. I always felt I had to dress up to get my haircut. She now owns her own place (I have not gone yet) and I hope it is not snoby!

Yup it's the worst, and they never blow it out right I don't know why I spend the money. In the summer I don't even have them blow it out because I know I will hate the job that they do even though I love my hair place I just hate the way it looks in the salon 99% of the time.

i HATE the way i look when I'm at the salon. that cape makes my face look so fat and i see all the imperfections of my skin. its horrible!
then they wisk off the cape and i'm like oh ok not so bad

GOOD!! So i'm not alone in looking hideous under those florescent lights of the hair salon! lol. I hate it so much. I get really self-conscious when people walk by. I'm always like 'ugh, don't look at me!'
But I do like how they style it afterwards. I'm REALLY bad at blow-drying my hair. It just never falls as nice as the professionals do it. So i'm happy as soon as I'm out of that crazy drape they put me in and away from the freakish lights

Well it was only $5 because I went to the cosmetic school to have it done. Since they're students I guess they charge close to nothing. Regular salons are a bit more (but not much - maybe $20-30?). I'm used to spending about $100 in NY so that was a pleasant surprise! lol.
