also on mlsli.com looking at houses, etc and getting a little depressed at the prices

not sure why i bother

I keep doing that too. DH's good friend lives in PA around Harrisburg. They just moved into their new house recently. It makes me want to cry when you see what you can get there vs. here.

i know EXACTLY how you feel about that. it makes me want to leave ny so badly!

but all our family is here, and i have my business here....

We Plan to Move to Florida within the next 5 years or so.
Anthony's parents & sister are there. My parents are going to move there, plus my uncle.

We can not Afford to Buy a House on LI

That's awesome. Rick's parents are down there too, but all my family is here. Originally, I was thinking I'd have no problem moving. But my sister and SIL, who both had babies this year have mentioned how great it is to live close to your family once you have kids. That has made me re-think wanting to move. But I still don't know how we'd be able to afford anything around here.

Re: Anybody Up???

Right now I am leaning towards the possibility of a 2 bedroom co-op or condo somewhere in Nassau.

It wouldn't be big enough to raise a family in, but at least we'd own it.

I've been paying rent since December 2000 and I'm sick of it! I'm tired of throwing $$ out the window.

And I just talked myself into the justification that co-op maint fees = house taxes, so its all the same in the end.

It's weird, he got dx with Cardiomyopathy at age 40. So the Dr. put him on expermimental drugs & that put him into liver failure. He survived that, but was told he had Hepatitis.

Well after Bone biopsies and Liver biopsies it was confirmed. He drinks but Not an Alcholic.

That's what we're looking into also. Right now, we're in a co-op that DH has owned since before we met. But it's just a large studio, and we need more room. We're hoping to sell this place and get a 2 or 3 bedroom co-op either in Nassau or Queens

We have a house. I never thought we could afford one but amazingly we can. I think when you have the pre approaval and you hear what your monthly payment is you just see if there is a way to make that payment everymonth. You work with the numbers until you get a payment that you would feel secure making and then you know your price range.

I hope the mant fees are not as high as the taxes

That's good though, at least he'll have equity from where you guys live now. We've got nada as far as that goes ... and its time we start. Even if we can't afford to go right into a house.

Hopefully we'll start looking by February.

We're 30 years old, its time to grow up

Yup, so it's nice. We might run out to the store but that is it.

That's good advice ... and we haven't ruled out a house yet. I'm still really hoping for a real house of our own. I don't like neighbors

Maint. fees can be anywhere from $600 (really low) to over $1,000 per month!
