Right now I am leaning towards the possibility of a 2 bedroom co-op or condo somewhere in Nassau.
It wouldn't be big enough to raise a family in, but at least we'd own it.
I've been paying rent since December 2000 and I'm sick of it! I'm tired of throwing $$ out the window.
And I just talked myself into the justification that co-op maint fees = house taxes, so its all the same in the end.
We have a house. I never thought we could afford one but amazingly we can. I think when you have the pre approaval and you hear what your monthly payment is you just see if there is a way to make that payment everymonth. You work with the numbers until you get a payment that you would feel secure making and then you know your price range.
I hope the mant fees are not as high as the taxes
I really wish we could get a house, but it makes me so nervous...all the additional bills every month, having money for emergencies. I don't know if we could swing it.

Maint. fees can be anywhere from $600 (really low) to over $1,000 per month!
Neighbors are great. Who else will bring in your mail when you are on vacation.

Neighbors are great. Who else will bring in your mail when you are on vacation.
Who else will blast music at 3am and cook curry while their 3 year old cries at the top of his lungs?
ETA: while we were living in a mother/daughter, so we had a shared hallway with the curry scent lofting up through our apartment

yummy..i actually like curry. my dad makes Japanese curry..so good..I can see how all those factors would drive you up the wall though
