if he chews on stuff, buy bitter apple...and only that brand, spray it on what he chews and if you catch him chewing, spray only once in his mouth. it works so well! my dog doesn't chew on anything now.

Re: anybody want a puppy?
We just started puppy K last night, she is already better. Best $130 ever spent.
She said to practice your growl and growl at the puppy when it does something wrong. That is how its mom would correct it and it doesn't really understand the over used concept of No. I growled at her today when she was pulling on my pjs and she stopped and went into submissive position.
Also for under the feet, we put a bell on her until she learns not to be there.

My dog and MIL's dog both LOVE the taste of bitter apple, so test it before spraying it on your stuff. I put it on a paper towel and she went crazy over it.

The trainer at the humane society where I just adopted my dog suggested this book as a start: http://www.petexpertise.com/dog-training-ebook.pdf

Re: anybody want a puppy?
i know this is going to sound horrible, but maybe you should get one of those shock collars...we had to get one for our dog!! dont think its animal cruilty! we barely ever shocked him! only when he was really bad, but it has a sound that they dont like!! she when hes being bad, hit the button for the sound and he will learn when he hears the sound to stop being bad! and then on times they are being bad you shock them! its really not a shock! cuz i put it on my finger! its just like a stong vibration thing that scares the hell out of the dog!

Re: anybody want a puppy?
Our puppy can be a pain, too, but I love him so much, it's not even funny! It is hard because we both work, but we try to give him as much play time as possible and walk him to keep him happy and tired out! He did chew my beautiful cedar chest, but now we try to keep him in a certain area where he can't get to anything he can destroy and he has his bin of toys. One issue is housebreaking. He seems to have an overactive bladder! I think I am going to make another vet appointment. He will be so good for a while and then he will just randomly pee in the apartment without barking to go outside or going towards the door! Thank God we have hardwood floors and it is easy to clean.

Re: anybody want a puppy?
Colleen it could be much worse...THIS could be YOUR dog...
This blue 4-year-old Great Dane named George is a real giant. He could be the world's tallest dog! He is 43 inches tall (from paw to shoulder), 7ft 3ins (from nose to tail) and weighs 245lbs (111kg)! Another quite interesting detail: George consumes 110 pounds of food every month!!
His owners are awaiting confirmation from Guinness World Records to see if he's actually the tallest dog in the world...
