i have always worked out...but since i've put on some pounds & most likely will have to take a physical fitness test soon I have started running again & added some weight training...i am looking forward to a new show on TLC that's supposed to help you eat what you want & still stay thin??? It starts around March 10th i think...hmmmm
We do need a motivational thread like PortJeff Bride used to have every day....

Good! I did the 4 weeks to a better runner program from Self before my wedding. My endurance was up and my thigh size was definitely down. I got off track and trying to build my running again. I did the first workout today...felt good! I'm happy to your buddy!

OMG where is this thigh thinning program you speak of????? I must see it now. I have just started running again. last week I could hardly jog for 2 minutes and this week I jogged a mile. I am so proud of myself in the non conceited proud way.
We should have a work out log. Should I start one? Maybe everyone posting what they do everyday will give us some ideas for new workouts.

It was the Self Reach Your Goal program. It's 4 weeks of running workouts (if running is your goal) and strength training. I was running pretty good by the end and toned up butt and thighs (unfortunately relapsed and need to battle the bulge once again!). You can find the program at www.self.com/goal I'm doing the self challenge now which is a little different--you can do the workouts on any cardio machine. I'm running though b/c I vowed to DH that I would run some 5Ks with him this summer.

I'll see if I can find it or I'll type it and post it. I did the runnign endurance one too. Cat its GREAT!!!
You start witha 5 min warmup at like 4-5 and then you start running the first week for 8 minuets at 6-7 mph. The next week you incraese it by two minutes and keep doing that every week till you get to your desired running time.
I staretd at 12 minutes because 8 was a little low and now Im up to 28 as long as I dont get the crazy itchy rash. Its awesome!

I WOULD HAVE TO START AT A SPEED OF 7!!! I am having a heart attack just thinking of it. Baby steps for me my friend. My warm up will be at 3 and the jog will be at 5.

You can def adjust it, I did. I stayed in the 5's until I felt like i could go faster. If it feels challenging to you, then you're still burning calories and building endurance.

Anything has to be better than sitting on the sofa right? A high speed may kill me on my third week of not being lazy.
Thanks so much for posting this info!!! I have a lot of reading to do

Re: Anyone doing the Self Challenge?
LOL go baby steps! As long as you feel the burn it works and you work it up. I felt stupid doing only ten minutes but dude after ten at first i was dying. It takes TIME so dont eb afraid to adjust it. I like doing the interval trainign alot too-thats what this months is about.

Re: Anyone doing the Self Challenge?
MeNBobs- you sound like me. I ran for about a minute and a half on 6.2 last week and I thought I was going to die! I spent the rest of the half hour alternating between speedwalking at 4.5 and walking at a high incline at b/t 3.0 and 3.5. I was BEAT! I'm going back to the gym today (never went since thursday ).
I signed up for the self challenge- but I'm going on a cruise right smack in the middle of it. I hope to get some exercise in while I'm away- but I couldn't promise to keep up with the diet (although- I won't go crazy!)
