anyone ever been to Barbardos?

DH and I are thinking of going there in the Summer, just wondering if anyone has been there? good/bad experiences?

I went many years ago and loved it. I stayed in the St. Lawrence Gap area - its an area of smaller hotels all on a strip, with a lot or restaurants and bars. The beach was beautiful. The hotel I stayed at has changed names, and I don't know the new name. I know there are also big resorts, but I don't know anything about them or where they are located. The main town is OK - same as the main town on most islands -lots of T-shirt shops and jewelry store, a little run down, nothing special. The restaurants we ate in were all really really ggod, but a bit pricey (again, like most islands). One coast (east I think) faces the Atlantic Ocean and the water is very rough - there are lots of surfers there. The rest of the coast is beautiful turquoise blue water.

No, but both my sister and my mother went to the island as a port of call and they were both told (by separate cruise companies) to only venture in the 'Resort' and 'touristy' areas as the other areas are not that safe. It was also the only island who port of call is surrounded by barbed wire so locals can't get into the cruise ship area.
We are actually going here as well as one of the stops on a cruise we are taking in June and our TA told us the same thing...

stopped there on a cruise and spent the day there

i was told same as above posters, to be careful venturing out on your own that its dangerous

the locals are very pushy on the beaches, like they do not leave you alone and harass you constantly to jet ski, boat, buy jewelry etc...we also were asked multiple times if we wanted to buy or do drugs

but the beaches are like postcards, picture perfect beautiful!

Just spoke with client who goes there every year - he's never had a problem - no one bothers him on beach. Rethinking it.

We decided on St. Maarten, the hotels in Barbados that are part of our time share were booked up through the end of the year.
