I have to start calling on the 15th and possible have to go the following tues.
I am actually curious to go, but its the worst time to happen. Its tax season and were swamped already!! I've postponed before, and I really don't want to put it off again.
What should I expect? and do you always have to go? MIL said shes called many times and they tell her not to even come.

The time I received it I did not have to go. I was so mad I wanted to get a week off school. I had to call every morning before 8 or 9 and the recording would say numbers 600-750 please report for Jury Duty. I was so sad my number was never called.

Yes,most times they tell you not tocome in, but sometimes they do. Ans when they do, sometimes you go there wait an hour and then they tell you to go home! Soexpect the unexpected, cause you will never know what is going to happen!!

DH just went... he had to call and his number got picked .... so he went to the court and they asked him questions ...then let him go because they didnt need him... that time counts.. so he is off the hook for another 4yrs i think!

I went last year; had to report, they called me for a case and then decided they didn't need some of us so we got excused. But it counted so don't have to go for quite awhile!!

I did, but it was so long ago. It is when your number is up. Your job has to let you go that day and must compensate you. What court is it for? Central Islip? You can come visit me then!!!

I hope it is!!!!! it just says any suffolk court. so who knows. I made a copy for my job. they are so good about anything, but its just such a bad time. oh well. that would be awesome getting to see you in action!!

When I got called a few years ago I called the phone number on date I was supposed to and found out I didn't have to go after all! hope it works out for you!

I went a few years ago and was told to come in on the first call then sat there for 3 hours and that was it. It was a waste to me and I had to drive in a storm.

Yep - i was irritated the first day because all I did was waiting until they called my name. When they finally called me for voir dire and they told us that it was a murder case - somehow, I become interested. I was hoping they will choose me to be one of the juror.... but because DH (fiance that time) is a lawyer - none of the lawyers wants me.
So - make sure you bring a lot of books/magazine to read. Don't put any head phone just incase they call you and bring something to munch or drink.
Also, as irritating and inconvenience it is, let remember there is no better justice system than our country...and beside after you serve (whether they pick you as a juror or not) - you will not be serve again until 5 or 7 years!!

My number came up 2 years ago --- I went in for jury duty and they didn't need a lot of jurors so when it was time for lunch they let everyone go who hadn't been picked for a jury and then won't call back for 6 years. I got of easy -- at the time I reported to Riverhead -- so I spent the rest of the afternoon at Tanger

I've been called 3 time since I'm 18. I know people in their 50's that have never been called! So the last time I got called I wrote a little note stating that.....THEY DIDN'T CARE. But I got to drive alllllll the way out to Riverhead because I have nothing else to do with my life and I enjoy missing work(last time 3 days) dor $41. Bitter? naaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy.

I had to go It suckked!! I got called in for a case and I just said everything they didn't wanna hear!! I told them I was in the middle of a law suit and that I'd totally be sympathetic to the plantiff!! I was booted right away

I was called. I showed up 4 days and was selected for a medical malpratice case. It was VERY interesting. Unfortunatly, the settled right as we were offered menu's to order in lunch Bummer since all of us wanted the free food and to hear more details.

yes. it was painless. I had to sit in a big room all day for 2 days... I brought a book and my laptop.
the second day they called my name and 2 lawyers interviewed us. I thought they were going to pick me (ugh i didnt want them to) but I think something I said might have turned them off.
its funny b/c you can point out the people that DONT WANT to be picked. They disagree with everything the lawyers say.. I couldn't do that...I dont like to lie because im feeling inconvenienced..
