Original post by HeatherRose

did anyone go off BC pills? can you tell me what to expect? I'm having so many problems, and I just think it will be so much better to stop taking them. I'm going to talk to my dr. before doing this.. but just wondering what I should expect??

just curious, besides trying to conceive, what r other reasons for coming off the pill for so long? the reason i ask is cuz i dont take bc pills cuz i absolutely hate taking pills, but dh really wants me to.

I'm coming off them b/c the Dr's are thinking I have very high hormone levels, and as a result I have (what the dr's tell me) a lot of bone loss, and I have pains on my bones from this, So thats why I am coming off them, But I was on them since before I even got AF, because I get cysts, and cramps that are out of this world, so I started taking them and they tend to shrink the cysts. I've also experience really bad migrines the last few months when ever I get AF so the gyno thought I should just switch BC pills, but I don';t want to, If its causing the migranes, that can't be good.

Re: Anyone go off BC pills?

when I first got migraines it was associated with AF and the pill. I was on regualar Ortho. And it would happen that like cloclwork that I always got a Migraine the day before AF arrived and the day after. After a few months of that I went to OB/GYN and she put me on Mirecette - another BC that on the 4th week the pills still had a small amount of hormones in them and that completely worked for the MIgraines but on the other hand completely killed my sex drive. So after only a few months I went back to Ortho and I was okay. I think the change for a few months did me good.

But when I started grad school almost 2 and a 1/2 years ago the migraines started again but out of control and after several tests my Neurologist felt it was just stress and also hereditary (my mom and brother suffers from them). Grrr!! I still get them but more controlled now.

but like you said the doctors are concerned with the level of hormones in your body -- when you stop the BC your migraines should clear up quick hopefully and you need to take care of your bones and gett better quick

it may just take a while to get your cycle back on track but that seems typical.

I came off BC after having been on it for 15 years, in Sept. I was lucky- AF showed up right on time the next month. Since coming off, my cycles would average about 28-30 days. It really is different for everyone as far as how your body will react. I would definitely get your doctor's opinion. Good luck!

when I stopped my cycle was really heavy and lasted 7 days instead of a light 3 days but after having my 2nd child it changed again !!
