Anyone have porcelain veneers?

I have always hated my smile. So last year I decided to get braces,--Yes 30 with braces--LOL

They are coming off very soon and my regular dentist suggested I get porcelain veneers to make my smile even better.

My teeth are now straight, but still not attractive to me because of there shape and other things.

Aside from it being really expensive, doesn't it ruin your teeth??? She told me she has to shave down my teeth to put them on.

Also, how often do they fall out or need to be changed???

I got veneers a few years ago...best thing i ever did! I had yellow streaked fang teeth that i always hated...braces wouldn't have done a thing. They do grind your teeth down a bit....but i had small teeth to begin with so I was able to walk around like that for a week without looking like a freak...so it wasn't that much taken off.

Not sure how often they fall out...i am hoping not that often! haha. I think they are pretty permanent like a crown would be...they basically fit over your teeth...much like wood paneling on a wall. I eat bagels and all sorts of 'tough' things with them....

Here's a before & after...the after is huge so you can see....i had 10 done only on the top...good luck with whatever you decide!

If you're worried about the dentist shaving down your teeth, I've seen adds for Lumineers (I think that's how you spell it), that claim that they don't have to do anything to your actual teeth. I think they're thinner so they they just attach to your teeth the way they are. But I don't know anything about how permanent they are.

WOW katherine - ur teeth are BEAUTIFUL! who did them for you??? i have to say i have seen some BAD veneer jobs where peoples mouths look like they belong to a horse.....but yours is AMAZING! absolutely BEAUTIFUL. i would love to know where u had them done

The OOOOONLy thing that's kept us from doing it was the time I got an abscess from the tiny gap between my crown & real tooth after the glue or whatever started breaking down (more than 5 yrs after the crown). The abscess hurt like NOTHING else. I'm not sure if this happens with veneers. Maybe veneer people could help me too!

I had two done in the front. I didn't like the shape of my eye teeth. They shave them pretty minimal and I don't Regret doing it, I do regret not doing the two front! I just might

I am a long time veneer person. I chipped my 2 front teeth when i was a kid,like 7 years old. So i've had my teeth 'shaved down' a few times already when they had to be changed. to answer your question about how often they need to be changed, if they are put on right they can last 10 years. they dont fall out.

The key phrase is put on right. I cannot emphasize enough about getting the right dentist to do this. My original dentist did a crap job and my gums were inflammed for years. He had to shave the tops down in a half *** effort to reduce the inflammation but instead they had this bulky shelf where bacteria would just get jammed up against the gums irritating it further.

I found a new dentist who is amazing and practically an artist with this stuff. The inflammation is gone

Please tell me more about this. I think i have the same problem and my dentist told me to see a preiodontist (sp), but I know it's because if the crown!

I thought it might be lose and food got undermeath it. My gum line hurts like hell!!!


it was do swollen that it covered the tooth at one point.

I don't want ot spend all this money on a specialist when I know it's the crown.

OMG!!! They look amazing!!!!! What a great smile!

Thanks..i HATED my snaggle teeth fangs!...i have never had my teeth whitened....so i am not sure, i thought they didn't stain..but don't quote me...i drink alot of coffee and so far i think they still look nice & white....boy i really need to find out more about this myself, huh? haha...i'll have to ask on my next checkup...sorry i am not more help!
