Damn how long does sheetrocking take?

Hey does anyone know about refacing kichen cabinets?

I opened up the floor plan so now the kitchen it is full view but I have been told to renovate a kitchen you need approx. 20k!! which we wont have with everything else but I would really like new cabinets I thought this may be a good option.

You don't need $20K to renovate a kitchen. It depends upon what you're trying to do. Are you going to completely re-configure your kitchen? Will you need to re-located the plumbing and electric or gas line for the stove? Those things will definitely add up to a large sum b/c more work is involved. If you are just looking to do a simple replacement of your cabinets and maybe even add some new cabinetry, than it really isn't as big of a job as you might think.

We renovated our kitchen for approx $10K. This included new cabinets (not refaced, but brand new), countertop, sink/faucet, new ceramic tile and a new dishwasher. We kept the stove b/c the previous owners literally NEVER used it - even know, I am still trying to cook off the 'new' stove smell. We are also still using the existing refridgerator, since it works just fine.

The materials for the kitchen really are not that expensive in comparison to the labor of putting everything in. We bought the cabinets (Kraftmaid) from Home Depot and had a friend of my brother's install them for cheaper than Home Depot would have charged us. We used another friend of a friend to install the tile, and it came out amazing. Do your research, and decide what is a priority for you. If you're not planning on a major remodel, involving re-configuring the whole room, than you definitely will not need $20K. Also, if your cabinet boxes are in good shape, than re-facing them could save you a significant amount of money, too.

Good luck and FM me if you have any questions!

Re: Anyone in a new home too?

We just redid our kitchen and the cost was about $25,000. We did not reconfigure our kitchen however there were several things we did that added to the cost. We originally started out planning to just reface, but the kitchen was original to the house (built in 1954 ) and it needed to be modernized. So we decided instead to do a complete do over!!! We got all new cabinets and a Corian countertop. We put in all new windows because the old ones were drafty and not at all energy efficient (also original 1954). We did not have a dishwasher, but wanted to add one. We discovered that we did not have enough electrical service to do this so decided to upgrade to 200amp service and added outlets to bring the house up to current codes. We put in a new porcelain tile floor and a ceramic tile backsplash. The only appliances we need to buy were the dishwasher and a new over the counter microwave. Our stove and refrigerator were both less than 3 years old having been just recently replaced.

My DH is very handy but this was a project that required a contractor and that added to the cost. We could have done it for less, but decided that since we plan on selling the house in 9 years when my DH retires we were making an investment in the future worth of our home.

I am totally loving my new home. We just bought a house in N. Massapequa, and I love the neighborhood as well. The renovations are coming along. We just ordered our new kitchen cabinets. I can't wait till my new kitchen is done. We're basically living in the upstairs apt. right now till everything is done downstairs. Hopefully by next month we can start looking for someone to rent to.
