Anyone in a new home too?

Anyone in a new home too?

I am loving being in my new house just wondering if anyone else is renovating etc.

We're doing work to ours. We just put down a laminate floor ourselves and we are still in the process of painting. After that we have to get that nasty wallpaper off our kitchen walls! I love how it is turning out though and DH and I are having so much fun doing it ourselves!

I am excited but scared because I am so not creative and not a decorator!

I officially move in on Monday but we have been doing some work over the last few weeks. Mostly painting rooms and stuff like that. Eventually I will need to get more furniture and tie it together with color and decortaions and stuff. I am sure my walls will be bare for awhile.

Our first venture is new windows and siding and roof. So I am looking at houses everywhere I go for ideas.

We officially move in on Friday but we closed on the house March 30th. It has been so much fun renovating, painting and buying furniture. I feel like we have done so much and there is so much more to look forward to. I think it helps fill the void of wedding planning.

I can't believe that in 3 days we will have been in my house a year.

The projects never end though but we are taking our time with it. I love my house.

DH and I bought our first home in March and we love it!!! We're in East Meadow...

So many different home improvement projects, but the major is finishing the basement right now. The sheetrocking was just finished (took forever), now it's taping, spackling, then the fun stuff!!

Next will be the bathroom (my least favorite room in the house right now).

I've been enjoying gardening....we had NO LANDSCAPING, and I made mini gardens in front of the house!

Although we've been in our house almost 3 years, the projects never end. We have done so much so far, and are still working on some pretty major renovations. And can you believe that after 2.5 years, we finally have on order our dining room set and the couch and loveseat for our living room? I can't wait...

And this is why I want a HOME tab!!

DH and I are in contract for our new home in East Meadow, too!! We are also waiting to find out when we close and the first project will be redoing the carpeting in all the bedrooms and painting a few of the rooms. I LOOOOOOOVE the kitchen - the just redid it 6 months ago! The other rooms will need some work, but not too much thankfully! I am hoping we can close mid month so that we have a few weeks or so to do the carpet and painting before we move in.

April and Marni - where in East Meadow are you guys? I grew up in EM, but decided I didn't want to buy a house there...wanted something different w/more property.

Re: Anyone in a new home too?

Claud - we will be on the south side of hempstead tpke near the public grammar school (OMG I better learn the names LOL!) I grew up near Clarke HS and was somewhat familiar with the area and we chose it b/c it was not to far away from work (NYC for me and Westchester for DH) and DH's kids who live out east in Mastic. ALTHOUGH.....once we bid on this house and was accepted, we found out the kids are moving to Staten Island this summer.....go figure!

Where did you grow up? What can you tell me (good bad or indifferent) about EM??!

Re: Anyone in a new home too?

April, I think the school you're referring to is Parkway Elementary School? On Bellmore Road? My Mom was one of the first students to attend that school when it first opened.

My Grandparents used to own a home right down the block from Parkway and my aunt and uncle still live there. That's not too far from where I grew up. I was south of Hemp Trnpk also - but, I lived in the neighborhood where Newbridge Rd and N. Jerusalem meet - across from St. Raphael's School (now Elizabeth Ann Seton regional).

I loved EM when I was growing up. There were great parks within walking distance and it's only 10-15 min. to Jones Beach! I went to the catholic school though, so I cannot comment on school system. I know when we were kids it was very highly rated - not sure where it stands now.

LOL Claud I went to private school too and am thinking Holy Family if we're blessed . My cousins went to St. Raphaels!

I called DH - the school we will be near is Mc Vey...

Thanks for your input! Curious to know where Marni is.....?!

McVey - that's all the way on the other side of Newbridge Rd! My cousins went there! You can see McVey from my aunt's house...what street are you on?

Re: Anyone in a new home too?

We live on the north side, across from home depot, and behind potter's pub. I love our little neighborhood! So close to everything, but from our house, you can't tell that all the stores are so close. I wish we could have more property, but that's middle class nassau for you...

Re: Anyone in a new home too?

Marni - that's a nice area, too. Best of luck to you! My parents now live north of the Trnpk in the 'car' streets, near the elementary school.

Thanks Claud!
I have to tell you for the most part I feel like a fish out of water. I don't know anything about the area, but I've met some of our neighbors and they are great people.

The funny thing is I don't know where ANY of the elementary schools are All I know is that we live right near the high school! LOL
