Anyone trying to quit smoking or thinking about it?
Hi, guys,
Just wondering if anyone out there looking to quit smoking soon. DH & I really want to quit but it's so hard. But we want to start getting healthy, especially since we're trying to have a baby.
Any thoughts?

I'm a very light smoker, and I know I'm going to have to quit all together soon since we're going to be trying too next month. Fortunately, I don't anticipate it being too difficult since I smoked much more when I was preggo with DD & I quit on the spot when the test came up positive.
I want to wish you & your DH lots of luck!

Ive been really thinking about this, Im a full blown smoker though so I think I may have some issues, but we both really want a baby in the next year so I think that will be a good enough reason to do it

Hi Helen,
I was a Smoker for 13 years. I started when I was 14. Both DH & I stopped Feb 1st, 2006.
We are Very Lucky, through our Jobs we are offered Free Smoking Cessation Help. Gum/Patches/In-Halers/Wellbutuin
I still chew my 4 mg Mint Gum.
Kicking the Habit is very Hard. I still get Cravings, almost 2 years later.
You Guys can DO IT!!! Just Put your Minds into it.

Every weekend we say the same thing 'No smoking come Monday' but easier said than done. You know what it is-even though I know it's so horrible-I really do enjoy the routine of smoking. I like having one when I have to make a phone call, on the drive to work, when I'm trying to gather my thoughts, stuff like that.

What really bothers us is that we have quit before (DH quit for five years) and then we went back.

Dh and I both smoke... We said we would quit when we got back from the honeymoon, and we still havent' stopped. He is more ready to quit then I am... I keep putting it off... The truth is that I actually quit cold turkey and didn't cheat even once for 10 months about 3 years ago.. it's like riding a bike. I had a very stressful time in my life and started again, and now can't stop again. I gained 35 pounds over that 10 months I didn't smoke , and now I'm afraid to quit because I'm afraid to gain weight again. I know that sounds completely ridiculous, but I worry so much about it now. Either way I'd have to stop when we get PG, but I really wanted to quit sooner than that!!

i smoked since i was 12. when i met DH he hated people who smoked so i actually lied and said i already quit. i ended up quitting a week later and i havent had a cigarette in almost 4 years. cold turkey. thats the only way to do it. you have to really want to.
good luck!

QUIT SMOKING.
It is the best thing that you can do for yourselves. 21 days without a cigarette is all it takes to get you on your way.

My Dad, a life long smoker, swears by a book called 'The Easy Way to Quit Smoking' by Alan Carr. (You may have heard Ashton Kutcher mention it in interviews.) It's not hypnosis. The author was a life long smoker too and he talks about what worked for him. Basically, he just reasons with you as to why you should quit. (Oh, you get to smoke while you're reading the book!!! It fact, he encourages it so that you feel no pressure at first. Eventually you smoke your last cigarette with him.) My dad tells me that he quit before they even got to that point in the book because the guy convinced him to quit.
Like I said above, it does not sound like much but he basically convinces you that its too expensive, that you're really not that addicted to it (you just think you are) and that you don't really enjoy it (e.g., think back to your first cigarette, it was gross wasn't it? Its still gross, only you dont realize it because your taste buds are numb).
Anyway, its definitely worth the 20-30 bucks. Good Luck!
Honestly, this has been the only thing that worked for my dad - he's tried it all, patches, gum, etc.

I also was a 'one pack plus' a day smoker for about 12 years.
Quitting was the best thing I ever did.
Smoking is now my biggest regret.
I used the patch and have been smoke free for 20 months.
You can do it!! DO it for yourself, DH and everyone that loves you and does not want to lose you.
I know it sounds dramatic, but thinking about my children growing up without a Mom is the only thing that got me to quit.
Good luck!

My friend quit using this book!
