The pill here too...Everytime I see the sponge I think about Elaine on that Seinfield episode

I agree, that percentage rate isn't very impressive... I can't believe I had no idea the sponge was taken off the market... just goes to show how long I've been on the pill... but here's the thing... what else is safe and effective that's out there BESIDES the pill? I feel like I have no options that aren't very intrusive. Does anyone else use an alternate method of BC (besides the pill?)
The ring (nuvaring sp?) you keep it in for 21 days I think

Sorry to crash........but I would really like to know this also....My Doctor wants me all the pill and all BC with any kind of hormone in it. My blood pressure has gone sky high since starting the pill. The only real option that they really offered me was Paraguard......it is basically an IUD.
Anyone have any opinions on this one???

I actually tried Nuvaring... but that didn't work well with me either! The pill made me crazy, and the nuvaring killed my sex drive. I just can't win!
I was thinking about the IUD also... but I'm not sure what this entails either. I have to make an appointment with the DR to explore options... I'll let you know what she says afterward!

I used the fertility awareness method till we were ready for a baby. I charted for almost 2 years and we used condoms as a backup during fertile times.

I would like to do this as well... mainly because I want to get off the pill.... get those unnatural hormones out of my system, as well as support my pro-life values....
Is it difficult to do? I am very irregular and worried that it would not be a very reliable method for us.

i had an iud. did not have a good experience with it. first of all my periods every month lasted like 2 weeks with it! second, either it moved or was never placed correctly because when i had it checked it was out of place and had to be removed. third, i got an infection from it also. needless to say i'm not a fan of the iud.

ive been on the pill for a long time but ive been so headachy for the last year and a half, with 2 major migraines thrown in, the neurologist recommends going off (higher risk of stroke with being on the pill + migraine). so i'm looking into alternatives
What about the NuvaRing? That's what I'm on and I love it...... I don't get headaches, but I didn't when I was on the pill either so I'm not sure how different the side effects are - but maybe it's worth asking your doctor?

i'll ask my gyn about it but i tend to think it may have the same risks as the pill if it releases hormones into the body. but its worth asking about thanks!

I will fm you details. I personlly have a clotting disorder and hormonal bc can kill me. I am sorry to say that FAM is frowned upon by some people since it is not conventional birth control. I haven't had a problem on here discussing it but it is a little TMI at times so I will spare these lovely ladies the nitty gritty details . You can all thank me later. Like I said it worked for me. I am pregnant now but this was a very planned pregnancy.
