Are we being screwed by our photographer?

We went to pick out our album the other day and DH was very self conscious about a few pics because he had a few pimples on his face. So when I asked if we can airbrush them out she told us it would cost appr. (maybe even more) $50 a picture to airbrush it out! I thought that was a little ridiculous considering how much this already is costing. Any thoughts?

Re: Are we being screwed by our photographer?

It has been my experience that when purchasing an album, the photographer would automatically touch up the photos to make them look good...

Re: Are we being screwed by our photographer?

Our photographer told us that airbrushing items out in the background that were the photographers fault would be included, not personal wishes - such as if i got a heat rash from stress on the day...but $50 sounds like a lot of $$!! We are picking up proofs this week so I will ask them when I go and let you know what they say.

Re: Are we being screwed by our photographer?

Ive never heard of a photographer including airbrushing photos. Altering photos is a very time consuming process and $50 a photo is not an exorbitant amount. If a photographer including airbrushing into each photo, he would have to charge a great deal more to all of his customers compensate for the time each photo would take.

If the things you want airbrushed our are a result of poor photography, the photographer should pay for it. But if they are things that are just a personal preference, it makes sense that he would charge extra.

Maybe this has changed in the two years Ive been married but I intereviewed a lot of photographers before choosing one and all of them charged for altering photos.

Maybe it's a new trend now that digital photos have become SO popular. but, out of the photographers that I interviewed, I can only remember 1 who wanted extra money to airbrush.

I have found (since I've been retouching my own) that it's pretty easy to do. So, $50 a pop sounds like A LOT to me...

Re: Are we being screwed by our photographer?

Maybe its more common its being included now? Not sure. My friends are all getting married now and do not have airbrushing included. But they are not using digital photographers.

However - even if its more common now, the only way your photographer is screwing you is if you had it included in your contract and now he is charging you.

Did you check your contract? Maybe he did include it and you can refer back to that.

Re: Are we being screwed by our photographer?

Don't feel bad... I had the same experience..

There was only 1 full length pic of me in my dress and there was a leaf on my train. The photographer told us that it would be 30 dollars to airbrush it out.. needless to say that we left it there...

AND... I broke out the morning of my wedding. I had two large pimples on my chest... of course just above the neckline of the dress...
and that too would have been 30 dollars to airbrush out.

I think this whole photography business is a rip off... they nickle and dime you for every last thing!

Re: Are we being screwed by our photographer?

From what I've always heard, its very time consuming and expensive and you would be charged to airbrush a photo unless the item being fixed is something the photographer could have avoided.

Re: Are we being screwed by our photographer?

If I remember, my photographer would charge for it. I don't remember what the charge was, but I know there was one picture where my forehead looked super shiny and I asked if it could be fixed at all and they told me they would charge for it.

Re: Are we being screwed by our photographer?

I think that it would cost extra for special touch ups like that, but I'm not sure of the price. So I'm not surprised that they are charging, but the price does seem a little high.

Are your pictures digital by any chance?

If they're digital, it's very easy to airbrush them - I will do it for you for free .

Re: Are we being screwed by our photographer?

SonicStef is right on the money. If it some that the photographer did wrong, airbrushing is free. However, it is not the photographer's fault if someone has a rash or a pimple. Photographers aren't magicians and shouldn't be expected to do things for free, just because you don't want to pay for them. Our catering halls charge us for additions, as do all other vendors for the most part. No one is nickel and diming anyone.
