Arranged Marriage........Stolen from 09

I was watching MTV's True Life Im Having an Arranged Marriage today and it got me thinking. I could definately not do it. Its a beautiful tradition, but not for me. I dont think I could trust my parents. How does everyone else feel? Would you let your parents pick your husband?

Definetly NOT!!! Simply because my parens couldn't possibly agree on a man for me. My mom wanted me to marry a latino Doctor who was wealthy and my dad would have one with a man's man-he actually loves DH so maybe he would have chosen him.

I think my issue and what alot of women migth agree with, is that my parents dont know me that well anymore. They knew me well as a kid of course but due to some issues in the family we wont go into here, there is a chasm between my parents and I, mostly my mom and I and only now are e startign to close it a lil' bit, since I am married, happy and able to live my own life seperately.

I did know 2 women who had arranged marriages though; my first year in college they were telling me about the tardition. One of the girls got to do a partially arranged marriage; they chose the guy but she got to meet him beforhand 3 times before having to decide yay or nay.

Lots of trust there..

I really don't think I would be able find Love in an Arranged Marriage. Yeah in time you will Grow to Love each other, but Not Be in Love.

I agree with you Jenn! My parents and I have totally different taste!! And even though they love him now, they didn't always, and they would've NEVER picked him for me! Luckily, the choice was MINE!!

My dad always liekd him but it was hard to win my mom oer, because in some ways he is so much like my dad; good with his hands, a man's man, not one for white collar work, etc. He's a simpel guy and though my aunt (who hates everyone) loves him, my mom didnt' the only time they ever disagreed on anything.

I had a boyfriend of 2 years when I met DH and my parents adored and loved him!! Me suddenly breaking it off with Pete (my ex) and dating Brian hit them hard! Plus Brian was just turning 29 and I was only 20 at the time!! They kept asking what a 29 year old could possibly want with a 20 year old!! Plus he was just skydiving at the time and they wanted more for me!

I'm so glad I listened to my heart and did what I wanted anyway!!

Yea non of my exes were ones that were loved much but Pete is 6 years older than I am AND we met ONLINE gasp! LOL so we never told my family TILL the day of our wedding via our newsletters! LMAO though his fam knew we met on match.com. My moms just weird..like we were togetehr 4 1.2 years when we got married yet she didnt think it was 'serious' as she told me, till he prposed...>< WHAT!!! We'd been togetehr three years!!!!

My Puerto Rican Lover Pete!! My parents even CRIED!! And years later, I found out they still talked to him on a reg basis after we broke up!


LMFAO- I can't believe you never told your family how you met till the wedding!! Thats GREAT!!

We def have so much in common!! The more we talk the more I realize how alike we are!

I KNOW sooo bad but my mom thinks the internet s strictly for child molestors and serial killers. She would ahve flipped because I was also only 22 and Pete was almost 28. Sooo she wasn't thrilled about that AND he has both ears pierced and nine tatoos..big ones.

LOL poor Pete. I made him hide them for te first 6 months of our relationship lmao ALL through the summer. When he met my mom he was soo nervous. Accidentally fashed the ones on one arm because he was fiddling with his sleeve. Luckily Id told her he had 'two' one on hs arm and one on his neck. LMAO when she finally saw them all the following summe, I just got 'the look.'

Jeeze a year later...lucky they didnt ask you to invite him to the wedding! That reminds me of the Meet the Parents movie lol.

My parents would've prob freaked if I met soimeone online too!

My parents weren't thrilled with Brian either. I met him when he just sold his house and quit his job. He was 29, living with his friend, and skydiving everyday! Shortly after meeting he moved down to FL to skydive, so I wanted to visit him. My parents FREAKED!! I was only 20 and I just told my parents that I'm going to visit him, there wasn't any asking!!!! They were sooo pissed!!

Brian is also covered in tattoos! He's working on finishin a half sleeve and three quarter sleeve and he has his upper back done!
