is leaving for his first day at the FDNY Academy for EMS!!! This has been his dream since he was a kid and it's been a long time coming! I am so proud of him!!
Now off to get ready for my meaningless crap A$$ job!!

Congratulations!
Is he going to be trained for fire also, even though he wants EMS? What certification does he have - basic or advanced? Does he know anyone he can try to pull strings with to get his 1st choice neighborhood?
I remember back in the day when the fire & ambulance were seperate. They didn't get cross trained in each other's skills.
Man, I had some crazy friends who were Paramedics in NYC EMS. The 'outpost' parties were even crazier!

He actually wants fire in the long run. He is trained in Advanced life support.
He eventually wants to end up at Ladder 147 in Brooklyn, its where is father worked.
