Baby ??

Baby ??

I know i haven't been around much since my alcoholic mom thread....i've been trying to figure out what to do... Thank all of you ladies for your responses....

and now on to the real reason for the thread.....

i'm reading 'what to expect when you're expecting', NOT PREGNANT YET, but the book is honestly freaking me out.

I'm 33 years old (in march, turned 33). Are you really high risk at 35 and have to do ALL of the tests????? It's seriously scaring me!

yes jess
very real

im 34 and trying to get pregnant before 35 but even if i got pregnant tomorrow; i wouldnt deliver until after 35 - pretty scary but all the tests are worth it in the end

i havent been on a lot at all so i dont know what happened with your mom - hope all is well

i think books can sometimes both help and hurt you when you are looking into expecting.

the best thing to do is sit down with your ob/gyno -- or an RE (if fertility might become an issue) and discuss any and every possible question you might have concerning getting pregnant.

good luck to you !!!

agree.

My mom had me (her first) at 36, and her last (my brother, child #3) at 41. All of us were healthy with no complications. The risk levels are elevated, but there's no guarantee that something 'bad' will happen. it'll be fine.

Aww jess do NOT worry yourself to bits! 35 is simply the age at which some of the (invasive) tests have a risk factor that's equal to the risk of an age related defect, that's all.
So I'm 40 and baking our first baby, and all my tests so far are normal. So yes, chromosomal anomalies are more prevalent over 35 but the risk factors are still very low. I was freaked about being so old at first and my obgyn rolled his eyes and said 'please. This is the upper east side, everyone I see is 38plus' love him!!!
So assuming you're both healthy more than likely you will have a perfectly healthy bun when you're ready!!!

Re: Baby ??

okay - here are all of my health issues - this is going to be scarey to write it all out.....

TMJ
had spinal fusion surgery and still have a little pain
sinus and allergy problems
IBS
epstein barr syndrome
cysts covering both ovaries
had emergency surgery to remove gall bladder
slight depression

DAVE has:
a low grade version of tourettes, which causes him to twitch, he has about 4 different twitches.

I suspect the only thing on your list that might be an issue are the cysts? Its funny I also had a diskectomy and fusion, and also had an emer. Gall bladder removal many years ago :)
I think if you get a good baseline ob visit in, you'll probably be relieved of a lot of stress? Also they may want you to stop BC pills or start prenatal vitamins in advance of ttc?
Also there is really good genetic counseling available, you may want to do that with hubby pre-ttc to get more info?
Good luck to you though!!!

Re: Baby ??

dont worry Jess

I have:

Hashimoto's Thyroiditis - 150 mcg Synthroid
PCOS
IBS
Epstein Bar - Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

I also have allergies, 45 day cycles, and other common 'issues'

The Best book to read is Taking Charge of Your Fertility

not the 'expecting' books yet because youre not up to that

If you read about your fertility, you learn SOOOO much about your body

ok don't freak out. Take a deep breath.

I had Ella at age 34 & she is perfect. I didn't know I was PG for the first SEVEN WEEKS, I got my period twice & I was still taking my BC pills & drinking & smoking.

I have had 3 surgeries on my ovaries for cysts and had 1 ovary removed, I have precancer cells on my cervix, I have IBS (prob related to your PCOS, btw) and I have had severe depression. And I was FINE and my daughter is as perfect and as smart as they come.

As for the tests, remember, you don't HAVE to have them done. Some people choose not to b/c they are keeping the baby no matter what. And the only invasive one is the amnio which you get after age 35. The rest are just blood & urine.

Pregnancy stinks and it is stressful and there is no way around it but its TEMPORARY and in the end, you get this really great little kid and HUGE boobs! You'll be fine! Your kid will be gorgeous. Don't get stressed. It makes wrinkles.

I found out late TOO, thought I had the flu!!!! go figure!

*Oh I also had the CVS test (invasive like an amnio but they grab placental cells, instead of amnio fluid, and its performed super-early, between 10-12 weeks. Got the results back FAST and all the chromo stuff is PERFECT; also found out its waaaay earlier than a sono would tell us!)
Jess, you'll be FIIIIINE, and so will baby! The Pregnancy and TTC boards on LIF could give you some helpful info too!

I can't thank you girls enough. You have no idea how scared i was last night. Dave was really worried for me because i was all distracted, etc.

You have all helped so much with so much other stuff - i am so grateful to have all of you in my 'virtual life' and real life too!
