Baby Showers for baby #3?

Baby Showers for baby #3?

OK I had a baby shower for my 1st child who is now 9 from both Dh's Family and mine. With Baby #2 I had a baby shower from Dh's family not mine she is now 4 1/2 my question Do you think it would be wrong to hint to my mother to have another one ? I have nothing the 2nd baby shower I just got diapers and things like that. So literally I am starting from square one I have no crib, stroller, carseat, etc.... Do you think im wrong and being selfish? Technically its been 9 yrs since that baby shower.

TIA

ETA: Thank you guys so much on your opinions they helped me so much on my decision and i am going to sit back and not say anything if my mom asks me if i need anything i will let her know then. I am going to wait 2 weeks when i findd out what I am having and start getting some stuff now Thank you again for being honest

I've never heard of someone having more than one shower unless a really long time has passed between children. Has your mother mentioned giving you one?

I'm 41, so I am going to use the old 'in my day' line

In my day, an expectant mother received one and only one baby shower, regardless of the number of subsequent births.
Asking for one now would seem greedy, especially that this is for your third child.

JMO, so please don't jump on me.

honestly, I dn't think its rude, seeing you have nothing!! but I know there are a lot of people (me included) that hate to be invited to a second shower just because there having a different sex, and its only a few yrs later.

But I'd keep it low key, not like a huge tradtional one, and just register for the things you need

weeeellll---i have to admit--usually i've only heard of just one shower for an expectant mother. but these days--people do whatever suits them.

does it seem like your mom wants to throw one for you?

if it might be a bit of an undertaking for her--i would just say no to a shower -- and instead maybe some family members will just chip in for some of the higher price items you might need

If someone wants to throw a shower for you, I don't think it's inappropriate just because it's not your first kid. I'm just not sure if it's right to outright ASK for one. That's JMO. But that being said, i think you should be honest with your mom about what you're going to need in case she wants to help you get some of it. Also, do you have any friends who have kids who wouldn't mind you taking some of their baby stuff of their hands?

I also think that even without a shower, your pregnancy and new baby's birth wouldn't go unacknowledged. Friends and family are still going to send gifts - in the absence of a registry, a lot of people tend to send money or clothes. Each gift represents one less thing you have to buy for yourself, so you'll have some money freed up to buy some of the bigger stuff.

I don't have any kids yet but I would imagine when you have more than one it's hard to tell when you should get rid of the baby stuff or how long to hold on to it. I think it's awesome that you're going to have 3!!

Im pretty much the only one popping any babies out so I have no hand me downs all the other things I had were really old and after a certain amount of time you cant use them anymore like with carseats they are always changing laws on how there made so your not really supposed to re use them for safety reasons the crib I had was 15yrs old and broke and so on.

I have 3 children and I was given a shower for each one, but I also had huge gaps in between children.
My first was a boy then when I had my girl 6 years later our families gave us one b/c it was a girl. Then my last boy was 7 years after my daughter. I never asked for any of them, and DH and I would have bought whatever we needed for our son, but it definetly helps!

Sorry to crash esp since I am not even close to being a newlywed, but we're going through something similar for my sister. Her son is 4 and she is now preggers with a girl. Apparently the new thing is to throw a 'sprinkle' instead of a shower. My mom and I are using the following poem for the invite, which kind of conveys the sentiment of only giving small gifts. Plus we are only inviting immediate family, not as many as were invited to her first shower. Honestly I am kind of feeling like it is sort of taboo but my Mom wanted to do it for my sister and she was ok with it, so I guess I will just play along.

You're invited to
A Baby Sprinkle

When the first one arrives
There are showers of blessings
From furniture and toys
To clothes for each dressing

But what do you do for kid number two?
The toys are still good and the cribs like brand new
Well the diapers are gone and so are the wipes
And the onesies don't last past just one little tyke

So what do you have
To rejoice a new daughter?
Why a sprinkle of course
With small things we all got her

So join us to say
'You're special too!'
To this new little baby
We can't wait to see you!

this is so cute!!

I've been to a shower for DH's SILs 3rd baby- she had 2 boys already but there was 6 yrs between #2 and baby #3.........it was maybe 20 people, in a house, not a restaurant, it was smaller scale then the first one. I think its def. ok to have another shower if time has passed and if you keep it to closer family & friends. I personally would not want 'extended' family to feel obligated to give a gift esp. if they would've went to my first shower. so maybe keeping it to people you know would come and would prob. give you a gift for the new baby anyway. good luck!

Re: Baby Showers for baby #3?

we just had a small shower for my MOH this weekend who is having #4. She has been SO generous ion the past few years when all of US had babies, that she gave us all of her stuff. We thought it was only right to give her new stuff. there were only 9 people but she deserved it.

So I say its ok.

I love that, I was actually going to say in my post that it seems unfair to have this huge shower for the first and nothing at all for the other children! Even if it is something small w/ a couple of girlfriends and close family. I'm actually doing this for my friend who is having her second, now I know it's called 'A Sprinkle!'

Re: Baby Showers for baby #3?

As someone who has a very large family... I think it's a little much to have another baby shower, let alone 3.

A cousin of mine had a 2nd one b/c 9 years passed btwn her first child and second. I don't think its fair to the rest of the females in my family..considering all the wedding showers etc etc...We're all pretty generous so I'm sure we would have helped her out with what she needed. I dont think it was right for her to REGISTER etc etc.

When I have another child, I'm sure my sisters and mother will help me get what I need but personally I think you should only have a shower for your 1st baby.

Maybe have a little get together and call it a *sprinkle*..
