Anyone belong? Carolinep I know you were selling yours. I used to be a member but havent been in over a year. I was at NYSC but I hurt myself 3 months ago and stopped going. DH is changing jobs so I can't justify 70 bucks a month when we need to save.
I recieved a BALLYS offer wanting me back and they're offering a $9.00 a month membership. with 2 months free. No hidden charges or strings attached.
I know they were not doing well for awhile so they started offering all kinds of dealls. I figure even if they go bankrupt eventually, its not like I am losing anything. 9 months with them is only 20 bucks more than NYSC was PER MONTH.
But my question is, they say they have new gyms. Has anyone been ina Bally's lately? Are they ok or still really ghetto?

Re: Ballys Fitness?
damn... i was just about to offer to sell you MY membership. I need to get rid of it.
I'm paying 15.20 a month...
Make sure there are no hidden fees in there and that it is EXACTLY 9 dollars.
Also, see if they are going to lock you into a 3 year deal or can you cancel at any time (that's the good thing about buying a membership from someone who had one)
The Ballys near me in queens is really nice, it's all new...but after being with my NEW gym, it seems like a sh*thole... and too small. Then again, it's in queens you know? I would suspect the ones out in the suburbs are bigger and nicer.
but the good thing about ballys is ther are so many locations.

I go to the one is Copaige. (sp?) It is ok. They say they are putting money into it, but I don't see much of a difference. I think this one and the one in Lake Groove are the better ones though. I have been to Bayshore, Levittown and Westbury and those are not good ones imo.

Supposedly there are no hidden fees but I will go ovwr the paperwork again. Its supposed to be that way for a lifetime-will never go up.
Someone i work with got a similar offer and she said Ballys wasn't doing well hence they're trying to get anyone in any way they can.
im going to check it out. If it turns out there are hidden fees I will defiently FM you. is yours for all the clubs?
the one in the bronx was eh but all I really need is a treadmill since I cant lift anything at this point. Lower body i can do without machines but I just CANNOT pay 70 bucks a month anymore for 'atmosphere' at NYSC.

I belong. I paid $89 for one year. When my membership expires, they constantly send me renewal letters and they usually start at like $200 per year. With each letter that they send, the price goes lower & lower. Previously, I've paid $99 per year-that's it no other fees or anything. This year they went down to $89, so I grabbed it.
It's ok, the one I go to is not very big but the equipment is fpretty new. It's a gym, I don't need the bells & whistles, so it serves it's purpose.

yeah they told me once I completed my 3 years and started with the 12 dollars a month, it will NEVER increase... there is a clause in there that point somethign percent increase a year, but it only comes out to like 1.15 a year. not a big deal. but still no 12.00 a month
yes. mine is for any club AND with daycare (haha!)

the ones in manhattan are nice... I know there is ONE or TWO in manhattan which are elite clubs that I can't go to... but 1. i never needed to 2. it was a friend that mentioned he couldnt get into so I'll have to look into that if you decided to take mine
The way I see it is... It depends on your level of exercise and what you are comfortable with...
I needed something BIGGER and FLASHIER b/c I was getting bored with my gym.. the one in queens near me was great... but there was one close to my office and it was more convenient for me to go there in the morning or on my lunch hour
THAT ONE... was G-H-E-T-T-O
and... aidan absolutely REFUSED to go with me... So going to the one near me was almost out of the question, unless DH watched him for me
I told you before that the big *get* with LA Fitness for me was how much aidan loves the daycare (he STILL DOES btw... hahah to the point where: when I dropped him off last night, one kid yelled out 'oh hey man!!' and aidan gave him a hang loose sign... )
knowing he has fun motivates me to go more often... =))

yeah, Jenn- $70 per month is steep, especially if your not using it (that's over $800 a year!!!).
All I use is the treadmill & the bike too, and I'm literally in & out. If you could cancel your other membership, I'd do it.

LMAO caroline you need to share more Aidan stories. I really love kid stories. I bore people with my student teaching stories and will probably be one of 'those' mom's, but something about just the innocent normalcy of kids always makes my day elss crappy.
Its good he loves it. makes it less stressful on you.
I am going to check it out in the Manhattan oens this week to check them out.
