Bank Accounts?

Did you all combine everything or keep anything separate?

I think we are combining everything but feel wierd about not having our own money.

What did you all do?

We're combining everything, although we still have to take care of a few accounts.

Honestly I posted about this too when we first got married. We have only recently started merging accounts because of the house and to be honest I am not thrilled with it. My DH pays all the bills, he is good with that, but I hate not knowing if MY bills are paid, though I trust him, it is just a control issue.

What we are doing so far, is paying all the bills with his paycheck and banking mine.

Right now I still have a seperate checking account because my paycheck is direct deposited to it and my HR takes 6-8 weeks to change it over and I do not have 6-8 weeks left of pay checks so I will change that over the summer and close my account and then everything will be joint.

We opened one joint account for all of our household expenses (mortgage, electricity, etc.) but we also kept our seperate accounts as well. We both have so many individual expenses that it's easier if we divvy up the accounts for personal and joint expenses. Eventually we will combine everythign into one account, but it seems to be easier for now to have them seperate. It all depends on your personal situation though, I think :) DH and I sit down once a week to go through all the bils, so we both know what's being paid and when, and I like having that knowledge personally!

We kept our seperate accounts and opened a joint for house bills, savings that we put a certain amount each month. We are going to keep it like this.

We have joint savings and checking. We've had it that way since we moved in together.

Some guests at our wedding came and took me aside and told me to take their gift (money) and keep for myself because they said all women should have something to fall back on.

I found that a bit odd, and I lumped it all into our joint checking!

We have a joint account. It was actually my account, I just added Jim to it and changed it to my married name.

I also have one of my own under my maiden name. My aunt always told me, you should have money of your own. You always hope your marriage is everlasting, but you never can tell. Things happen. Better to be safe than sorry.

I have a second account under my married name which Jim isnt part of. Only for two bills which I haven't gotten around to moving.

Jim also has an account of his own. It doesn't bother me in the least.

We just use our own accounts mostly for buying eachother stuff! hehe or little things we want but don't want to affect the 'main' account.

right now we have joint checking and savings accounts. i pay all of the bills and take care of the money.
each week each of us gets some personal spending money
eventually, i'm going to set up a separate savings account for emergency items and such...and deposit some money each month into that.....and i'd like eventually for us each ot have our own separate account for little things that we need....so that if he is going to buy me a present i don't know how much it costs.....

We have joint accounts only. We do however have one CC each that the other is not on so that we use that for presents and stuff like that. I pay all the bills, but I still don't know what he bought.

And since our gas and stuff goes on his one card, I still don't know how much a present was because of all the other charges that are on there.

We combined bank accounts when we got engaged. This way we were able to work out a budget and get used to paying all the bills together, before we were married.

we have a jount checking and savings for most of our bills and the house fund. then we have our own separate accts... we dont and will not for now merge accoutns completely.

We each have our own savings account from before we were married. We kept those accounts the same but will use them when it comes to house time.

My paychecks pay the bills and his go in our savings. In Sept though I won't have a job b/c I'll be student teaching Then his checks will pay for everything.

we've had joint for awhile. Since i do our expenses, its easy for me to skim some off for my own pleasure! haha jk Its just easier this way.
