Bank problem! Help!

We got lots of checks made out to Mr. & Mrs but I haven't yet/may not change my name. FH had me endorse them anyway with the new last name and he took them all to the bank but they would not let him deposit them unless we open a joint account. And I need two pieces of ID to do that. For some reason I don't think other people had this problem. Any suggestions?

To save ourselves the aggrivation, we just had DH endorse them and deposit them into his checking account. Then later transfer the $ into our joint savings.

Can't you just deposit them into his account?

They won't let him deposit into his account. And I don't know if it is because they have Mr & Mrs on them or if I endorsed the back. CRAP!

We had a joint account and we both signed them and put them in.

I think you can open a joint account (you with your maiden name) and then just deposit them that way, just bring your license.

yeah we just opened a joint account w/ my maiden name, both signed our married names and deposited them then I changed everything (our joint account and the checking account I already had) after our marriage certificate came in..

The guy we worked with said they get this all the time and they were pretty relaxed about it and tried to make things as easy as possible...I'd imagine your bank should be the same if you go in there and talk to them

i added dh's name to my account in advance of the wedding - when we deposited i had to sign my nsme with both last names and it worked out fine.

Just write 'For Deposit Only' with your bank account number.. thats it!

Since you already endorsed them, can't he just sign them, too, so that they can be deposited?

Still not resolved. Will try to take care of it the next time he comes down from Rochester. And thanks!

We already had a joint account, but the account was in my maiden name, so I had to sign the checks that had his last name on them with both names. It was quite annoying!

that happen to us too...
we had to open a joint account, it can be in your maiden name though and just show them the marriage license so that you are able to deposit them if you're not going to change your name.

I added him to my account before the wedding and presented them with our wedding license before we were married. They changed my name on the account to my new name. However, after the wedding had problems taking money out of my own account with out his signature!!

The bank is doing the right thing...it does stink, but spouses take money from each other all the time...the best thing to do is open a joint acct and put the checks in there...Dh and I had a joint acct prior to getting married so we didn't have any trouble.
the way the bank views it is like ( you weren't there) so how do we know you exsist or thats your signature...

we opened up a joint account. they only needed my driver's license and our marriage certificate. they put it in my new married name just based on the marriage certificate. i haven't even changed my name yet. then just one of us had to sign all the 'mr and mrs' checks.

We had a joint account and I endorsed all the checks with my married name and my maiden name and we just had to show them our marriage certificate from the church.

most of our cks were mr & mrs... we took them to my bank he had to come with me we both signed them and they asked for his ID they should be understanding that you have not yet changed your name

we had a joint account...but received many checks with my 'married' name on them...DH signed all of them with both names, i signed with the married name and just deposited htem. they were fien with it. if you are depositing them, it should not be a problem. people send kids checks and the parents deposit them...the 6 year olds aren't on their account.
