Anybody have a DH who can't seem to let you have privacy in the bathroom? We have 1 1/2 baths and DH seems to think that he needs to be in the full bath when I am taking a shower or even sitting on the bowl. I use the 1/2 bath when he is taking a shower or or on the toilet, but he thinks it is acceptable to barge in on me. I told him I would have to start to lock the door and jokingly told me he would pick it because 'we're married now' and he is allowed in the bathroom when I am in there.
Oh yeah, he leaves the bathroom door open when he does his own business and I constantly shut it and he complains and opens it. I don't need to see him or smell him on the bowl. Ewwww!
Anyone else experience this?

Re: Bathroom privacy
We will come in when the other is in the shower if it is an 'emergency' or if we have to get something quick, but that is it. I would think especially if you have another bathroom, it is not necessary for him to come in on you. This reminds me of that Sex and the City episode where Miranda is dating someone who leaves the door open and one of the ladies says, 'well at least he is comfortable with you.' And she responds, 'no one should ever be that comfortable....'

Re: Bathroom privacy
If someone is on the bowl, they get complete privacy. We don't even talk to each other through the door. But if someone is just showering, the other person can come in and do whatever they need to...as long as it doesn't involve the bowl.
We only have 1 bathroom, so we set some ground rules early on.

Same thing for us.

Same here. Except he won't get in the shower when I am brushing my teeth, and yet it is OK to join me in the shower?...

Re: Bathroom privacy
We only have 1 bathroom & it is within our bedroom.
I always barge in on DH while he is showering. Mostly to get my make up & hair products or to plug in the hair dryer.
He is fine with it though, b/c we leave about the same time, so we are kind of on top of each other in the mroing. ( and not ina good way )
Weirdo doesn't like to spit in front of people though, so I try to not open the door while he is brushing his teeth.

Re: Bathroom privacy
We have one bathroom also, but try to respect each other's 'bathroom privacy' as much as possible
Thankfully DH now leaves for work a good 1/2 after I do, so I can get my shower/hair/makeup/etc done well before he even needs to step foot in the bathroom.
While either person is in the shower, its perfectly fine for the other person to come in, get products, brush teeth, and even use the toilet.. Ok let me clarify, its ok to do #1 ... anymore than that I expect can be held until the other person was done in the shower! (though unfortunately we both take long showers, so I do not expect that either of us would be able to hold it for that long!)
Anything else, we keep out. I truly do NOT want to be in there while he's doing anything , and vice versa! Bad enough I can hear it all, dont want to be a witness to it

Re: Bathroom privacy
Some things should be private. I like my private bathroom time and so does he. I always ask before I open the door if it's safe.

Re: Bathroom privacy
We have plenty of toilets in the house (3) so there is no reason for lack of privacy. We do not pee around each other or #2! I find it disgusting...JMHO.

Re: Bathroom privacy
We only have one bathroom - but even after living together for almost 5 years now - I stillrefiuse to let Craig come in if I'm 'busy' We'll walk in on each other in the shower - but that's it. I'm just wierded out by 1 or 2 in front of anyone, especially my hubby!

Re: Bathroom privacy
We have this weird English thing where the toilet is in a separate room (okay, it's a closet) than the bathtub and sink. So there's not to much walking in on one another. But, I really don't mind it. I used to get weirded out having to go to the bathroom in front of him, but not so much anymore...depends on how, um, serious it is....

It must be a European thing. My BIL's apt in Warsaw was like that. It was so weird to take a shower there, because I am so used to using the toilet and taking my clothes off right then and jumping in the shower. Instead I had to go to the 'closet' next to it.

DH's old apartment in the East Village was also set up like this! I sort of liked it because if he was shaving I didn't have to do the tinkle trot while I waited for him.
I leave a lot earlier than him, so it hasn't been a problem. Though he doesn't care if I come into the bathroom when he's showering (it's always so I can toss a cup of cold water over the rod, he's a good sport) but anything involving the bowl for either of us while the other's showering... no way.

Re: Bathroom privacy
While either one of us are doing our business, the bathroom is off limits, but if either one of us is showering it's ok as long as you don't have to go to the bathroom.

Thankfully, we don't have this problem. We only walk in on each other when we're showering - thats it!

Re: Bathroom privacy
We are not private about our showering but most often we are not getting ready at the same time so it's not an issue.
Bowl time is private time for the most part. We sometimes will talk through the door if it's something that can't wait.

Re: Bathroom privacy
God! That's more information to know... You're quite lucky to have 1 1/2 baths because DH and I live in a one bedroom apt. with only 1 full bath. Perhaps, he misses you or personally prefer the full bath? That's the only thing I can think of for him to use the full bath when you're in the shower or using the sink.
As far as not closing the door when your DH does his business... Ewwww!!! It reminds me of that 'Sex and the City' epidose when one of Miranda's boyfriend did that... My DH closes the door and when he's finished he sometimes really stink up the whole bathroom! The smell is enough! We agree to spray the room with Oust or Lysol immediately after one of us stinks it up. Why don't you have a talk with him and how much it really bothers you? You're married now and that means living together and being a team.
