BC Pills and Depression?

Right before the wedding I started again on BC pills and lately I have been so lethargic and sad.

I googled BC pills and depression and so many things came up. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm going to talk to my dr.

Re: BC Pills and Depression?

When i was on a pill that had three levels of hormones in it I was a MESS. It was like I had PMS every day. I literally cried every day. It really was unbearable. So my doc put me on one that was just one level of hormones and I was so much better. I really thought i was going crazy, till I spoke to my doctor about it.
Different pills give you different reactions, so he'll probably give you another one to try.

Re: BC Pills and Depression?

My best friend had this happen--she would burst out crying for no reason. She tried a few before she found one that she had no issues with. I forget what she is on now--I am on ortho tri, and had no problems, but I know she had issues with the same pill...

Re: BC Pills and Depression?

What pill are you on? I experienced this years ago with Ortho Tricyclen and have since learned that it is 'known' to do this. I am a huge advocate against this pill after my experience and many of my friend's experiences with it.

Re: BC Pills and Depression?

BC make me nuts, but I've had to be on them for other reasons. Ortho-tricyclen lo are the easiest for me to take.

The thing that worked the best for me was taking them at night, just before bed. It seems that the 'crazy' hits me a couple hours after I take them. I've felt much better during the day since starting to take them at night.

ME TOO! I had went into bad depression with Ortho Tricyclen. It made me a mess. I was cranky and tired all the time.
I had my doctor change me, and after 2 other pills I found Yasmin to work best for me.

Re: BC Pills and Depression?

I tried 3 different kinds, and my final straw was when I threw myself down in my closet and started taking a tantrum that I had nothing to wear, and I was overwhelmed in my day. I was always a happy person, not much of a crier until I got on the pill, it made me nuts, I am 4 years off it, and have not thought for a second about getting back on. it was posion in my system

Re: BC Pills and Depression?

That happened to me... I had been taking desogen for years and years and my dr. gave me a sample of something else (levlen)... I started taking it and became a maniac... crying, yelling, everything... so I threw it out and went back on desogen and all was back to normal... like some of the other girls said, it's sometimes a question of just finding the right pill for your body... some people have to try quite a few until they get it just right

Re: BC Pills and Depression?

your pills maybe too strong. you might need ones that are not so high on estrogen. i had this problem but mine was worse. i would curl into a ball and cry all the time for no reason. so i switched to ovcon 35 for 4 years and no i just started seasonal the one where you get your period every 4 months. no side affects yet and its been the second month.

You're making me think...I've been on Ortho tri cyclen for 5 years now, and I've been noticing more lately that I'm feeling tired and depressed much more often. I wonder if it's related....

I had the same reaction to Ortho Tricyclen, and when I changed pills to Yasmin, I am normal again, been on Yasmin for about 1 year and half and NO Side effects. I actually go to question to Ortho rep while she was at the dr's office cause the dr said alot of people complain of those symtoms and the reps say it doesn't happen. I gave a piece after she said it must be me.

Re: BC Pills and Depression?

I have known so many people to have the same reaction as me to Ortho Tricyclen and to see that on here a few of you agree - it just makes me wonder how these drug companies get away giving out these medicines!!

I have endimitriosis so I have to be on BCP. I was on Demulen for 5 years and loved it. But my health insurance stopped covering it, so in Jan '03 I went on Mircette - no side effects, but it wasn't enough to control my endo, so now I'm on month 2 of Ovcon 35...

Men have it so easy

Re: BC Pills and Depression?

I experienced Severe Mood Swings and Depression when I was on that OrthoEvra Patch. OMG, I was out of control, it was horrible! I got off it after six months.

Never had problems with the pill, but everyone is different, most people love the patch, and look at my experience with it.

Re: BC Pills and Depression?

I take Alesse (or aviane, the generic form of it) and the only side effects I have noticed was tender breasts in the very beginning of being on it, and I am sometimes short of breath (one of the side effects listed in the literature.) It is a low-dose pill and seems to work well for me.

Re: BC Pills and Depression?

I have been through this. There were certain times of the month that I would become terribly sad. I switched pills several times. I still dont love my new pills. I am considering going off altogether to see how I feel. Hope you feel better!

Me too! Except I was on OTC then switched to the patch 2 years ago (came off that after a year, I constantly had break through bleeding) and I am know on OTC-lo. I have been moody and very tired lately. I started excercising and taking multivitamins to see if this helps. It will be 5 years this month since I started taking BCP and I can't even remember anymore what it's like to not be on them. I want to live my life hormone free for awhile! I am seriously considering coming off them once this prescription ends.
