Being a work widow suucks!

Being a work widow suucks!

Since Friday--I've seen DH a few hours yesterday before he went to bed --- just enough time for dinner and some take out. Sure we slept next to each other in bed -- but heck he was gone by like 430 this morning cause of yet another OT shift.

I won't see him till about 8 pm tonite. Holiday weekends stink when your spuose is working. I can't complain cause at least its overtime....but still.

I'm soooo bored...and of course I lost my check card yesterday so i can't even go out shopping cause i can't use my card to pay for things!

who else is bored as hell???

Re: Being a work widow *****!

I feel your pain! I had to go to a wedding ALONE on Friday. It was the first time I ever went to a wedding without a date. I had a great time with my coworkers but it STUNK when there were slow songs or just funny things happened that I would have liked to share with him. Then, yesterday I saw him for an hour - we tried to stay awake but fell asleep and he was up again and out the door by 5:30AM

Trying to keep busy, I babysat yesterday and today my brother is bringing the kiddies over but it isnt the same!!!!!

Re: Being a work widow suucks!

well its good you were able to still have fun at the wedding. my poor brother was a GM in 2 weddings this summer and no date. he was txt msging me saying 'this stinks--no one to dance with and everyone is dancing but ME'

yesterday wasn't bad as my bro came by and hung out with me. but today he is OOT--my sister is in Morocco with her boyfriend, and my parents are doing their own thing today. I probably will just watch crap movies on tv and clean around the apt. :-P

Re: Being a work widow suucks!

believe me girls - i'm with you....(dave works at an appliance store)

Dave's work schedule (please keep in mind - it DOES NOT change).

Sunday - noon to 5:00
Monday - 9:30 - 9:00
Tuesday - OFF (naturally, i'm at work)
Wednesday - 9:30 - 9:00
Thursday - 9:30 - 9:00
Friday - OFF (naturally, i'm at work)
Saturday 9:30 - 6:00

He works EVERY SINGLE HOLIDAY that I have off - with 4 exceptions: 4th of July, Easter, Christmas & Thanksgiving. Any other time i'm off - he is NOT.

He does NOT get paid overtime.
He does NOT get sick days.
He gets 2 weeks of vacation which will NEVER be any more than 2 weeks.
He CANNOT get extra days off without honest to God PROOF. Seriously - for a wedding we went to in Nova Scotia a few weeks back, had to bring in the invite as proof. He was NOT paid for the days he missed work.

SERIOUSLY - SHOOT ME! If i wasn't a night person - i'd NEVER EVER see him.

sorry for the rant...

for a fellow P.O.'s wife

I can relate. I've seen Scott for a total of 1 1/2 hours since Thursday. He and many other P.O's were forced in on the 4th for a 6:00-2:00am shift. So we had to cancel our plans. I ended up going to Fire Island with friends, but we all missed him!

He came home Sat at 4:00am. Yesterday I thought he was off, but when he woke up at 5:00pm he tells me don't you remember I'm packing an overnight bag and won't be home till Sun night. So I made him 'breakfast', packed his 'lunch', and we bonded all of 15 mins. He left at 6:30pm and is not scheduled to come home until 8:00pm tonight (fingers crossed). I just got off the phone with him and he has yet to sleep. So when he does come home he will shower and then go to bed.

Thank goodness for my wonderful girlfriends who help me deal with his shift changes, missed birthdays, cold dinners, cancelled vacations or postponed holiday celebrations.

Ahhhh the topsy-turvy lifestyle of P.O. hottie .

omg retail can suuck so bad! DH was in that before he became a cop -- and i hated it. i also did retail for a few years too. its unreal how every great holiday the stores have to stay open for the sales! when i worked for best buy--they made it a point in the interview to let me know they only close 3 days a year---thanksigivign, christmas, and easter.

that stinks he doesn't get the paid days off. like i said--i know i can't complain much cause DH gets a lot of paid personal days/time and sick pay. but i remember when he didn't--so i feel your pain!

omg i am RIGHT THERE with ya sister!

pete was off on the 4th and also got the mandatory OT of 6pm to 2am shift. he was around the howard beach area. at least people were nice--he said that all nite long people were coming outside of their bbq and offering him food and soda/water while he stood at his post. in south jamaica queens where he normally works--they usually curse him out!

he didn't bother coming home on friday nite cause he had to be at work in queens at 7a.m so he just slept at the precinct friday nite into saturday morning. got home around 5 pm yesterday---and he was sooo tired.

he's on a detail in manhattan right now---also scheduled (fingers crossed) to make it home around 730-8pm.

lets just be happy for that big OT check when it comes!

Lucky you got details about the 4th. Scott didn't want to talk about work since he was mega drained even after TWELVE hours of sleep. All he wanted was food, hugs, and stuff. He picked up my camera and said can you you show me what I missed. I felt so bad and a bit guilt for having so much fun. Nice to here Pete got some .

Do you know Scott said he was falling asleep standing up at a street festival! Two of his friends said dude go back to the precinct and take a cat nap. Meanwhile all the bosses knew he had not sleep and they didn't say or do a darn thing. That kind of shiit gets me so heated. So he claimed he needed to use the bathroom and walked back. I hope he does not get caught by the desk officers .

Yeah the thought of the OT check is the only thing that is keeping him going at this point. BUT I'd like to know when in the FARK he is getting his retro check . It's not like we're trying to purchase a house or anything.

the problem is that he's VERY good at what he does and his store is number 4 statewide in sales...so if he went somewhere else - it would mean much less money & he'd lose whatever form of seniority he has (even though it DOES NOT matter)...

i'm a football widow.

and a video game widow.

and a bad movie widow. repeatedly. doesn't matter how many times he's seen the movie.

what works for us is that i LOVE football, baseball, basketball, video games and movies - so at least we lose each other in that!
