Being an authorized user on a credit card - UPDATE
Do you know if you are an authorized user on a credit card and you take that person off, does it come off of your credit report??
UPDATE:
So i received an email last night from Equifax who I used to file the dispute on my credit report for having my father's credit card on my report, they deleted it! I didn't think that they would I thought the process would have been a lengthy one but they replied back after a few days with a 'deleted' status :)

Re: Being an authorized user on a credit card
its supposed to but sometimes they don't do it. CC companies are a**holes and they do stuff like this and leave it on hoping people dont realize
This is what we had a problem with for months actually. When a mortgage broker checked dh's credit report and went over it with him DH saw a few CC's that shouldn't be on there. DH has good credit so thats all we focused on but the problem was that he had all these things with such high limits. When DH was in college, his parents gave him a joint card for emergencies and stuff but it was his parents main card. The card itself has been closed for years actually and not even his parents have it anymore. There was $25,000 limit on the card and this was coming up on his credit report. He had to get a letter from AMEX saying that this card has been closed for years and then we had to wait for it to come off. THere were 2 other credit cards where the same thing, they were closed for years but still showing as active on his credit report.

first you have to get a letter from the credit card company stating that you dont use this card anymore. But even before you call make sure you are not still on there as an authorized user, if you are tell them to take you off. Once you get a letter from the CC company then yes you send it to the credit company. Somewhere I have the place you send it to, so i'll find out from DH who he had to give it to exactly.

You're welcome. Just know that it will take an average of about 8 weeks for it to come off. But after you do so make sure to check that they take it off.

No it will not come off your credit report. They will not erase the account becuase it was in your name for a time period- the history of the card will stay on your report. However, going forward, it will not report anymore cause it will no longer show as an open and active account. ( so if the person were to pay late in the future, it would not show against you). I work with credit so If you have any questions, FM me.

it doesnt show it as active though which i think is what she needs. This is what the mortgage brokers needed to see from DH. They just want to see its not active and will work. For us we had to wait about 8 weeks for it to show that he is not an active user anymore and once we showed them the letter from AMEX and showed it wasnt active anymore then they were fine with that.
CC history yeah still stays, i have VERY old cc's on there that have been closed since 2003 but says closed next to it

Exactly. Im a broker, and thats what the banks need to see most of the time. Just that you are no longer on it and not responsible for payment.
